How about if I just call today's announcement 'the gimmick'?

I do applaud Apple for taking a leap that everyone has been talking about but no one has accomplished ('til today). Today's society is moving to touch screen EVERYTHING, and this is moving us even further in that direction.
the simple fact that it doesnt have multitasking makes it a complete gimmick...

A Very Low Resolution Display with 25% fewer PPPs than the iPhone or iPod Touch

According to Apple's page on the product, the maximum resolution it is capable of playing MPEG4s at is 640x480 resolution at 30 fps. Not even HD! It features a 1 Ghz processor that significantly slower than just about every single notebook on the market today.

Sadly, I admit that even a giant ipod touch has appeal. I use my iPhone for a lot of web surfing from the couch and even with my readers, it is not ideal.

A giant ipod touch would address that. But the cost needs to be for that convenience, not for simply a coolness factor.

But if the one post correct that flash player is not included then it might be a deal breaker. That to me is the single biggest drawback to my iphone.

All that has to be done is for it to be "JAILBROKEN", and you can use flash. I assume that some JB hack will be out within 1 month. Not only that, but free apps, etc... etc... etc..... The only drawback is the warranty = crap if they find out.

I will NOT be buying any apple products - ever, unless they drop this "you can only buy our apps, blah, blah blah, no warranty if you decide you want flash on your iCrap.

I'm not telling you that you should JB it, because I wouldn't with the risk. But it's a pile of garbage without being JB.

so tell me why this is sooo much better then an Iphone? If they allow VOIP then the data plan and blue tooth will pay for itself.

I honestly can't see how this is anything but a complete flop. It really is an iPod touch for the handicapped.. no multitasking, no HDMI, no USB, no camera, no flash, a horrendous bezel - it's a freaking iPhone OS for God's sake! How are you going to type on this thing without cradling it in your lap? So it's supposed to be for e-books? Good luck with eye strain reading off of an LCD for hours - this is why other e-book devices use e-ink.

The most laughable thing about the product is that Jobs actually had the arrogance to suggest that netbooks aren't better at anything. Um, actually my netbook can multitask, connect to other devices without retarded adapters, take video with its camera, basically do everything a real computer can do, for HUNDREDS LESS.. and did I mention it can MULTITASK?! My 3 year old BlackBerry can multitask.

This is basically Apple having the audacity to build a worthless product because they know there are a bunch of dumb hipsters that will buy it, nothing more. The Courier would absolutely murder this thing, and it will once it makes it to the market. Why not back a bigger version and call it the MaxiPad? Put a string on it and.. iTampon? That's about as much value I would give it.

It is good to see this presentation went smoothly. This one could have used some improvement.
