Recommendations for late 90s/early 2000s truck/SUV?

Having now paid off my truck, a 2006 Chevy Colorado 2WD Crew Cab Z71, I'm now thinking about trading it towards my Camaro. The ~$10k its worth would go a long way towards a 2SS/RS.

In thinking it over I still need a truck/SUV for hauling my dogs and trips to Lowes and similar, I just don't need a newer truck like mine with $10k of value tied up in it. I need something old and cheap that I really don't care that much about.

I was thinking about maybe a late 90s Jeep Cherokee (not grand cherokee) or a Blazer or something similar.

Anybody got any recommendations of specific vehicles or years or things to look out for?

I had a 2000 Blazer ZR2...loved it.

1999 GMC Envoy or 1999 Chevy Trailblazer. Maybe even and 1999 S-10/Blazer ZR2. Basically any 1998-2002 GM SUV or pick-up in that family would be a great choice. They are so reliable and very tough. I love my Sonoma

Yeah Blazer was my first choice since my first vehicle ever was an '82 S-10. Only problem is I can't seem to find any locally in good shape. They all seem to be autos with a destroyed tranny. Finding one with a 5 speed would be perfect but they seem like they're rare.

Thats part of the reason I started looking towards the Cherokee. Lots of manually tranny models floating around out there....

Cherokee is a good choice, they will go forever and take the milkes no issue and have a true 4WD system. My parents just sold one with 200k miles to my cousin and he still drives it to the mine where he works everyday. Just make sure you get the 4.0 I6 and not the 4 cylinder.

Yeah, everything I've read says that 4L 6 cylinder is rock solid and cheap to fix.

OK, I know its a FORD, but I had a Ranger with the 3.0 L V6, a good little truck and real handy....it NEVER let me down and I never had to do anything but regular maintenance and put gas in it. I would have another in a heart beat.

check out your local municipal auctions, you should be able to find pickp trucks and SUV's from the phone, electric or gas company for pretty cheap. I've seen them go for a couple hundred bucks!

That one is nearby and could probably be had for < the $1000 listed. I just don't know how much money it would take to get it roadworthy again....
