Doesn't that car still ride on the Lincoln LS platform the current generation rides on, and isn't that right about 3600 lbs.? If so, how does this car loose a few hundred pounds?...

There are some newer shots of the seats on Autoblog, but I just wanted to add IMHO the interior on the 'Stang is just a little too sterile for me. I mean, it looks great, like a tuxedo, but is a little bland. There's nothing exciting about it - nothing unique, well, that's been seen. All the lines are too parallel or too perpendicular for my tastes. Okay, I'll say it: it's boring to me; no personality. I like Camaro's interior much more, especially with the accent package.

The Mustang interior does look bland. But it looks a higher quality of bland than their last bland!

I don't know how people keep coming up with ideas that the Mustang is going to weigh less that it currently does. Current platform doesn't come close to meeting new safety standards, and that adds a alot of weight.
Even if they use weight saving parts all over (which they would have to just to keep the weight where it is now, much less lighter) that would skyrocket the sticker price, which is not the Mustang's M.O., always being known for cheap performance. |

The engine may be lighter but the overall car will not be.

Worth mentioning here is that, in the real world, the Mustang weighs just about what Ford says it does. That may not seem strange to some, but the reality is that most automakers, and Ford isn't immune, are a bit optimistic when releasing factory specs for curb weight. But Ford hasn't done that with the S197 Mustang. Quote:

2011 GT will weight more than the current model, but not by much due to a heavier engine and transmission. (think a bit less than 100lb) The chassis will be lighter. All weight gain will be due to the heavier drive-line and increased feature content. (2010 GT could weigh less than the current model since it will use the new chassis and the old 4.6L,5M which is lighter than the 5.0L, 6M coming for the 2011MY, but increased feature content makes this uncertain.) 2011 V6 model will weigh less than the current model, with both the chassis and drive-line weighing less overall than the current car. An interesting aside, Ford's current strategy calls for all cars to lose at least 250lb during their next, major redesign...including the Mustang. That means Ford's goal weight for the upcoming, GRWD-based Mustang GT due in the 2012-2013MY is roughly 3250-3300lb in base trim. And that is a minimum goal weight for the next model. Whether they can hit that mark or not is another question altogether. Quote:
