I find it funny that 90% of the people posting "answers" in that thread would have no idea whatsoever of how to actually do such a build.

sure they can say "chop the firewall to make it fit" or "you'll need a different car to start with"

but how many of them would go out and find the dimensions of the motor, the dimensions of the frame of the car and all the other stuff to make it work.

same thing went for the guy who swapped a corvette IRS into his firebird. he asked for people's advice on how to do it, everyone gave him shit about it and told him he was retarded to try it and to just do what everyone else did and put in a 12 bolt or 9" and a watts link.

so what did he do?

put an IRS into his firebird.

dont hinder the imagination of the world. what may seem stupid to you may be tomorrows next big thing.

hell, years ago, everyone thought it was stupid to believe that the earth revolved around the sun, or that the earth was round, or that the stars were fixed in place, etc....
Completely agree. I love seeing crazy stuff done to cars. This guy knows what he wants, you won't be able to sway him away from that. As long as he understands the challenges ahead, he should be fine. Hell, I wanted to turn a 2002 monte into a rear wheel drive monster, and keep the thing stock on the outside. Why you might ask? Cause they will never expect it! Crazy ideas are meant to be discussed, not trashed. My only problem is the guy was a little low in his HP ambitions. 650 HP, come on, all that work you should have 1000 HP by nightend.

The problem in that thread isn't the desire to be creative, it is the understanding of how to do it. I have no experience with engine swaps, but I do know that there are less complications when the engines are built by the same manufacturer or built from the same series, like the LS-series. If you go into a motor swap without good knowledge of engines and cars in very specific terms, your motor swap will go bad. You could easily decide to swap an engine that won't fit or will not perform as expected. Let's also not forget the importance of parts that are not being swapped but must be appropriately prepared, like the transmission.

There's a lot that is being overlooked in that thread. I like creative builds, but people who truly understand them are simply going to be better candidates for that sort of complex installation.

Nobody wubs me

I still need to get over my MW2 high, then my L4D2 high (and I still haven't even opened the box for that one because I'm so busy with MW2).

Ah well, I think I'm the jerk here. It's none of my business. I have little patience for malarky--this is why I don't like kids
so guide him in the right direction. specificly, not vaguely.

part of the problem with today's kids is that 1. yes, they are unwilling to search out information for themselves over just asking online and waiting for answers
and 2. that no one is willing to step forward and help them in their ventures. a LOT of ideas have sounded stupid over the times, and a lot of ideas have turned the world on its head.

plus, helping figure out specific things to do on a swap like this just might give yourself some knowledge in the process. who knows.

with a v10 viper engine, it should be at ~500hp to begin with.

but you have to learn somewhere. and why spend the time to swap a normal, same-brand engine/trans into a car then trash it/sell it/or pull it to swap something bigger, faster, stronger down the road. why not go balls out from the begining?

hell with the 86 carb'd LS1 swap, there were a LOT of things we took for granted going into it, and we have had a bunch of hang ups along the way. but each thing that tripped us up has helped us to watch our step on the next step of the process.

Lol, I've actually slowed down with the gaming. As soon as the semester starts up for my GF I'll have plenty of "me" time to blow up russians, zombies, et al.

The stars aren't fixed in place. They revolve around bigger stars and black holes. The move linearly as well.

Heh - my latest obsession... supercharged saturn sky autocross car... 245 hp/tq at the wheels, and as high as 210 ft*lbs at 1900 rpms...

And the blower whine is simply intoxicating...
