I think that Emmit fit his system very well. Keep in mind that the only reason that Emmit ended up in Dallas was because they traded an under-producing RB by the name of Hershal Walker who didn't have nearly the same level of success in the same system as Emmit.

Emmit Smith is the best example of durability and consistency with any running back in the history of the NFL. He isn't the best running back, and no one would ever try to tell people he was, but he showed longevity in a position which eats up players in a few good years.

In college Emmit Smith was exactly the same as Mark Ingram. I've probably heard that comparison made by commentators half a dozen times this season, and i agree with it.

My original comment was made based on the dominance of the game Emmit showed in College while at UF, this does not reflect or have much to do with his NFL Career. Just because a RB dominates in collegiate play doesn't necessarily mean he will enjoy sustained success in the NFL. (Example: Reggie Bush)

I throw that question out every time someone mentions Emmit and that sir, is by far the best response anyone has ever given... Kudos... and I agree with all of it... It's a rhetorical question and my delivery usually puts people on the defensive, and as I mentioned, I am a Dallas fan... just like to see whats out there...I'm not stirring any pot, I just like the discussion...

thanks, great response...

Thank you, I'm glad I could set the bar.

Nothing wrong with stirring the pot..... this thread has quite a bit of that

If you remember Emmit Smith's acceptance speech for the all time rushing record; The very first thing was to thank Barry Sanders for retiring early so he was able to win the record. Barry had more yards per season. I take nothing away from Emmit Smith. He was a team player and a great running back.

Walker was the best RB in the history of CFB.. with Barry Sanders right behind him.

I agree with your statement. I don't care what Zues says.

Emmets 'O' line got amazingly better after Herschel left.

That was probably the best 'O' line in the history of football. Sanders would have been ahead of Emmet had he gone to Dallas. Maybe not as far as some people would tell you, but farther. The difference is that I think had Emmet gone to Detroit, he wouldn't have even been CLOSE to Sanders.

I was refering to your comment that Emmet did better than Walker. It's unfair to say. That offensive line got 3 times as good after Walker left.

btw. I don't think you could name an ''all time best'' NFL running back.

The athleticism of today's players would put to shame many of the older stars... You can name a 'best of an era' but not best of all time imo.

Hard to argue there. But it's like splitting hairs at this point with some of these guys.
