I don't think he was in a school zone - the article says he was going 85, which was 35 over the speed limit (which must have been 50 mph). When it said he ignored elementary traffic laws, I think it meant it as basic traffic laws.

I like the idea of income based fines. It seems that the less fortunate are always more affected by a ticket than the snotty rich guy that feels a ticket is pocket change. I guess this guy may think twice.

A $150 speeding ticket is nothing for a millionaire and a ton of money for people living paycheck to paycheck! So it actually makes sense to charge a proportionately larger fine the more money you have in the bank. That way it hurts "equally" for everybody, haha. I mean you broke the law (by going way over the limit), you should get more than a slap on the wrist!

I'm pretty sure Germany does this also. It is a Percentage based on your income. Even tailgating tickets can get into the 10s of thousands.
