Getting CPL can happen two different ways. You get promoted to SPC or specialist then you get recommended for what is called a lateral promotion from your first line supervisor. The Commander signs’ off on it and when it gets approved you get the rank. The other way is threw the DA or department of the army. If the DA determines you need to be promoted to CPL hey will do up the paper work then it is sent to the unit you are assigned.

Getting SGT. You must get the rank of SPC or CPL first. Then you name gets selected to go to a promotion board. You are required to answer questions in front of the senior NCO’s in your Battalion. After you are done either a majority vote or all can say no, but the president of the promotion board can over rule all the 1st sergeants and say yes, and his word rules over all. Three months latter after your paper work is approved you get you promotion and some pain in the process.

Hopefully I will be there at Indy 2009 to meet every one and enjoy the weekend. I will spend the next few hrs on the forum but at midnight east coast time I will be sighing off.
