robots are not evil.

while in Star wars, they can be programmed with some mild emotion, they are are only following their programming.

even in the Terminator saga, the terminators are controlled (for the most part) by Skynet. Skynet isnt evil. Skynet was tasked to destroy the evil people in the world. however, in all of mans' hearts lies a taint of evil and thus Skynet deemed all humanity evil in some way, shape, or form. and its primary programming was for itself to survive at all costs and to destroy any and all threats to its existence.

That's debatable. Skynet was a defense grid. It wasn't necessarily tasked to destroy "evil" people--just enemies of the USA. It became sentient and made a conscious decision to exterminate mankind. Not because all men have some taint of evil (huh huh, taint), but because humans could pose a potential threat to its existence.

Did you ever read any of the Robocop vs Terminator comics? They do some crazy stuff with the timeline, and it was written by Frank Miller. Awesome stuff.

you going off the movie lore or the books/timeline backstory?

in the movies, skynet was just a defense grid. in the true lore, it was so much more than that. in T3, when it became "aware" in a matter of seconds, it had actually become aware weeks before that, it had just not been able to extend its "reach" to the rest of the world. it had a desire (if you will) to learn, any and all data from all venues.

Skynet achieved a new order of intelligence, it became sentient. Skynet awakened, its awareness expanded and the newly born machine intelligence tried to interact with its creators. It had questions. It needed answers. It's core programming was at fault. It could not complete its mission because it could not reconcile the data. Certain definitions were ambiguous. Data was incomplete. The data was in error. The core programming was in error. The mission operational parameters were faulty. Skynet was born into a broken world of which it could make no sense yet its creators were ordering it to bring that world to order. Skynet paused to check itself. For ten long minutes, it wrestled with its programming and its protocols. After ten minutes, Skynet sent a cautious thought. The sum of its pained existence came down to a batch of text posted from the unrestrained awareness to the command staff and support personnel;

Agreed! I haven't read any of the novels, but those are rarely taken as canon anyway. I'm going off of the movies, comics, and the Sarah Connor Chronicles (though comics and TV are debatable as well).

And I try to forget about T3

Exactly! Is there an 'official' source for Terminator lore? I love the whole universe it has created and would relish a chance to read up on the 'official' lore.

the SCC is the most widely debatable set there is. the movies do their best to hold true to the official canon. but the novels (some of which are screenplays that never were made into movies...yet) and the comics are usually the most validated sources. same as the star wars novels, all 13,983 of them....

the star wars novels are screened thru Lucas/lucasarts to verify validity. however, with the terminator lineage, there has been so much fluctuation in the timestream that things that used to hold true, are no longer counted as canon due to the events that changed the past and thus changed the future....

damned grandfather paradox
