That's bullsh*t... I'm almost positive I read somewhere that the Japanese government has funded a lot of the research that Toyota has done in alternative energy.

You don't see GM crying about it. This is America for Christ's sake... C'mon...

F*ck Toyota.

I'll won't bother attacking Toyota, everybody else seems to have done that already and I have nothing to add. Sooooo . . . anybody else notice that the credits could reach $7500? That puts the cost of the Volt in the area of $30k, maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. But that brings it back down to a price where people will be able to save money by owning the car vs most alternatives. I think the Prius has a ~$3000 rebate with it.

The other interesting thing is that it is proposed for cars that have 6kWh (or more) batteries, which means ~15 mi electric range and reduced cost compared to the Volt. Thats important because the Volt might be able to cheat the EPA test and not use any fuel. If it doesen't use any fuel, it can't be rated for fuel economy which means it can't help GM's CAFE numbers which would really suck.

Just one more sign that Toyota is on its last leg and is about to "pull a GM" if nobody minds me using that terminology. Not disrespecting the General of course. Now if only I could get the average consumer to ignore the stereotype of Japanese superiority and compare the cars for what they are.

That and don't forget to factor in the fact that the first plug in prius caught fire and exploded...

Exactly. Japan taxes the crap, and don't get me started on the tariffs that they levy on foreign cars there....

Toyota can .............

they r just mad cuz they know that the Volt will just kill the Prius..

honestly if i knew who this guy was from Toyota that went to Congress and tried getting Congress not to pass this bill i would probably just go up 2 him and punch him in his face....

haha sorry if i sound crazy but this pisses me off for some reason...

Toyota needs to get their noses out of other peoples business...they should stop worrying about others and start making some quality vehicles

I would have to say that I am surprised that Toyota is fighting this because I have always read that they are such a green company and they knew that gas prices were going to go up and that is why they offer such fuel efficient cars. And are always at the cutting edge of technology Since i am new to Camaro5 i will say that was sarcastic.

Just shows that Toyota does not have anything in the pipeline with a battery that is close to 6Kw then.

It is surprising that it is just Toyota speaking out against this because I didn't think that any other company had plans for a car with a battery that big.

I just realized that Toyota had a "scandal" a while ago because Japanese government money helped to develop the Prius. I think this move may represent some serious hypocrisy.

Green company my ass. They are green because they are making money being green. If it wasn't for that they wouldn't give a shit.
