so that story... I drove the 92 Jeep Wrangler to Christmas dinner... Coming home I notice its making an unusual noise. I say unusual b/c it was none of the usual odd noises it makes. I chalk it up to a bad U-joint since it goes through them pretty often. Well I am about 3 miles form home and the noise is getting worse. Soemthing should have told me to stop and check it out but I was so close to home I thought ehhh... Ill just check it at home. Just about the time I think that... bam... it feels like I have a blow out! Then the back of the jeep drops a bit. then BAM... the back of the jeep hits the ground and I get passed by my tire... Yup, wheel fell off! Luckily I was going slow and it only rolled to the other side of the road and hit the guardrail. (the tire that is) I was able to pull the jeep of the road pretty easy as to not be stuck in the travelled lane. Now here is the bad part. Its 11:30pm on Christmas, I am at 125 over White Oak (thats for anyone who may know the area) and its VERY dark. So I get the wheel and stand there thinking SHIT, its a long, dark, cold 3 mile wark home. Just then this couple stops and gives us a ride home. I send Kris back in the honda b/c they had left all the crap from the back of their car in the jeep to give us a ride... really swell people! So she goes back with them to get their stuff. I got the jack and tools and head back. By the time I got back, the Sheriff had showed up. First time in my life I was glad to see a cop. Well we snagged a lug nut off each wheel to put the tire back on so I could limp home. While I was working on the Jeep, another cop shows up. Not sure if he was OSP or Georgetown, all i saw was a white car. Another nice cop. The second one to show said he had a jeep and we talked jeeps for a few minutes. I think they were really bored... graveyard shift on christmas... yuck. Well we got the tire on and limped back home. What a way to end Christmas 2009. |
