Kia Optima, Possessed

My fiancée and I are about to head to a nice dinner. As usual, I attempt to unlock her car using the key, which I turn. The doors unlock, then lock again. I try again. The same thing happens. Ultimately, I open the door between this pattern and manage to drive the car to our destination. There was no problem exiting the car at the restaurant, but coming home was fun. She gets out of the car on her first try. My door keeps me locked for about 5 minutes while I try to shove my way out. Finally, I exit the passenger door.

Why did this happen? For background, I'll point out that this is a 2001 Kia Optima with 4 cylinders, an automatic transmission, in the cold, snowy winter of Chicago, and it has less than 90k miles.

Look for a stuck switch or short circuit in one of the door lock switches.

I got sand in my door lock switch years ago and it would not return to the middle position after pressing "unlock". If you left the car sitting like that for some reason (heat or something) it would make and break the connection and unlock all the doors at some random time.

This sounds similar.

My truck does the same thing. Sometimes it won't open at all, for like days lol. One of the most embarrassing things happened to me while driving this thing, this girl was talking to me and I tried to open my driver side door... and it just wouldn't due to the lock thing. So I had to go through my passenger door. But I still haven't gotten around to get a new lock put in it.
