Making it AWD would be amazing but then it would take away from the value of the car as it would raise the price. The 3.6 DI would be a GREAT top engine for the car. Im sure in a few years they will have it as the price drops considering its going into the Camaro and hopefully the G8 base.

The car is selling like a mother and they shouldn't mess with it.
Yeah but can it compete with the new 09 maxima in performance, yeah the G8 is nice but it not....luxurious as the maxima, I seen 3 in philly, and they are the shit that is a good looking car, and yeah ditch the supercharge 3800, the DI would do fine, and even better with an AWD drivetrain GM should do it

Another note I hate FWD cars, and especially if its good looking, GM should convert most of its FWD cars to AWD

Amen to that brother, however it'll never happen. AWD, not only adds weight, but is also expensive. The car would not only cost more, but it would also lose fuel mileage, something GM can't afford to have happen, especially right now.

Agreed. Yeah I don't consider my SS/SC a real "SS", but man does it perform like an "SS" should. Especially the Cobalt SS Turbo... However I think when the Cruze replaces it may we see the end of a FWD sub-compact "SS" sport car....

Maybe GM will bring back the "Z24" moniker or something...

Acutally, the Malibu team member I talked to at the Malibu dealer training event mentioned a Turbo Malibu SS as a possibilty.....and not the 4 cyl variety!

I'll believe it when I see it though -

the 3800 series of engines is dead. 3.9L engines are a temporary upgrade. G8 is getting the 3.6L DI V6. However, the new Malibu while being a great car still doesn't seem like it should get an SS badge, unless they make it a 2 door and offer a bunch of cosmetic upgrades. Similar to the differentiation between the Neon and the SRT4 a few years ago. I'm fine with a power upgrade on the LTZ trim to the 3.6 DI and drop one of the current V6's.

I don't think it'll happen either.

Actually, I think the Monte Carlo should have it's SS revoked until further notice. Not only is that car ugly, it is slow. At least the Malibu isn't ugly anymore. It would look better with a lip kit, a turbo, and some SS badges.

that would be hard to do since they do not make the Monte Carlo anymore it was killed off after the 07 year but from what I have read it is only on hiatus and may come back again like it did in 95 after almost 10 years. and the Monte SS is NOT slow, it is very quick my dad and i drove a 06 SS and damn was it fast but it has too much torque steer which is common in a FWD with 300+hp.

With the SHO coming out, do you guys think it's still a bad idea?

If anything, GM needs to revamp the Impala to fight the new Taurus first.

With the LS4 and a 6-speed auto or manual.... not a bad idea
