Chevrolet Volt revealed

I think Chevrolet has another winner!

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/16/...011-chevy-volt/

I really like this design! IMO, it's a much nicer design then either offerings from Toyota and Honda. Looking at the Volt, I'd seriously consider a hybrid.

I agree, though, I think it's creeping close to a Prius roofline. HOWEVER, overall, it looks WAY better.

Great job GM

Not the look I was hoping for... wish it looked closer to the concept. Gratefully the Camaro has my attention currently. If I had to choose by looks, I would pick the Volt over the Prius but it still irks me that it's similar in looks. :(

As my excitement now leaves the Volt, I hope the 2nd gen will look more like the concept, then I'm back on the bandwagon. If I had a family, this version would be fine but I'm single, hence the lost interest.

The interior is outstanding...I daresay one of the best interiors GM has ever assembled. It alone blows the Prius out of the water.

The soap-bar exterior looks better here than it did in earlier pics, but it still doesn't grab me. From the rear, it looks great. The front 3/4 views though are still kind of bland.

Pricing is going to be the determining factor. Whether fairly or not, this thing is going to be compared to the Prius and the upcoming Insight, and if it's not priced in their neighborhood, I'm very concerned about the success of this car.

I'd actually consider buying one of these OVER a Camaro. Not that I'll be buying either anytime soon anyway, but while expensive, my insurance would cost a lot less, and I'd be spending a lot less on gas.

And was there any word about E85 in the Volt?

The Volt is FlexFuel equipped. So yes, E85 is an energy source.

Volt

Did anyone see the production pictures of the Volt? They turned a sleek sporty car into a Cobalt clone.

There's a reason that every time GM shows a concept car in its ads, there's a little asterisk that reads: Concept car shown. Production model may vary.

The concept was as aerodynamic as a brick. Bob Lutz said himself that it would probably have better aerodynamics if the entire car was turned around backwards. So I'm not sure how you got "sleek" and "sporty" out of the concept because that thing would've accelerated slower than a toyota yaris with six Christmas trees tied to the roof.

The production Volt is optimized for aerodynamics to maximize the electric-only range. If the concept was to be produced, such a large amount of electricity would go to just propelling the car through the air that E-Flex drive would be pointless.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with that and I understand that the aerodynamics of the show car had to be altered drastically to be feasible.

What I DO have a problem with is that Chevrolet was running ads showcasing the Volt concept as recently as two weeks ago and maybe even sooner, proudly showing off the old Volt design. Those of us who are enthusiasts and follow the car have known it wasn't going to look like that for a while, but average car buyers that weren't in the know but remembered the ads probably got a huge shock when they saw that the radically different production model so soon after seeing the concept in the ads. Imagine someone who just found out about the Volt two weeks ago in an ad while watching a football game, and then wham...noticeably different-looking car debuts.

I think they should have softened the blow a bit by maybe showing the Volt concept from the rear in the couple of months leading up to the unveiling, as the back looks closer to production spec than the front does...
