For 2009:
8,031 Challenger SE; 14,883 Challenger R/T; 8,586 SRT8.

For the 2008 and 2009 MY you see a total of 37,900 Challengers of all makes for two production years. Challengers are produced at a rate of 2,500 to 3000 a month..so you figure that if they make 3000 a month..lets just take november with an estimated 3000 produced.

Total produced: 3000 (ish)
Total sold: 2,040

That leaves less than a thousand unsold , 960 or so spread between 50 states and foreign sales (Canada, etc)..that leaves roughly 18-20 unsold Challengers per state. Even if you bump the production figure to 3500, you're still only seeing around 30 per state.

Thats the reason you dont see Challenger numbers being massive, but what isnt usually reported is that each production month is 1/2-3/4 sold out, and thats with dealer markups and the "crushing popularity of the Camaro!".

What cars are flawless? I really hope you aren't about to say the Camaro...

I also don't see how many of you bashed the challengers drivability and handling when its skid pad numbers are almost identical to the camaro ss. I assume like with many threads on this site ignorant people are posting things they know nothing about.

Maybe one of these days us muscle car guys will bond together and root each others brands on instead of trying to make each one look bad. For better or worse its us against those hybrid guys and government that want to take your V8 sports car away. Are some of you just that insecure about your choice of ride or what? Cant you appreciate it for what it is instead of bringing it down for what its not? If I could Id have one of each, ive driven the challenger r/t and really liked it. It was very comfy and looked great with the hemi orange paint. I got a kick out of watching 4 guys leaning out of a 4 runner when I pulled out of the lot looking at it when I drove by with their jaws wide open.

What color SS do you have? My brother bought a red 2000 SS off the show room floor new from the chevy dealer in Buford.

Considering that one of the reasons for the existence of muscle cars was pure and simple rivalry, I think that most muscle car fans bond together fairly well. As a former hybrid owner (I owned a '05 Prius), I can say that not all hybrid owners are that sort of people. With mine, using clean reflexes, and the electric motor's instant torque, what I enjoyed from time to time was beating much faster cars across an intersection. After that, it was done, of course, but this was always good for a laugh. As for the government, they're in an interesting position. Look at it this way, they will shortly find, if they haven't already, that there is a lot more profit to be had in selling Camaro SSes than in selling Volts, and the sales of Suburbans and Tahoes will help pay the government back sooner.

I'm glad to see that Challenger owners are that satisfied with their cars. I doubt that I will be among them, though. Recently I managed to drive both a Challenger R/T and a Camaro SS, both with six speed manuals. While I like the way the Dodge's stereo made using my iPod's playlists a snap, I liked everything else about the Camaro SS better.

I love all three of them, I simply personally chose the Challenger. On a shelf in my garage I have die-cast models of the Challenger, Camaro and Mustang.

I will say its been...disappointing the amount of outright hate towards the Mustang and Challenger that I see here.. Maybe it is simply because the forum that I come from, Challengerforumz.com, is so hospitable to everyone..I expect that common respect.

I think it's stupid, and borderline immature to get all worked up over something like this.

It isn't anyone saying your car is inferior, it's just a gauge of how satisfied challenger owners are with their purchase. If I was a happy Camaro owner, I wouldn't feel the need to come here and spit on this thread.

exactly....even though im only 22 i think its the young guys on here who tear apart the muscle car enthusiasts. all they care about is arguing on why their muscle car should be #1 in a report solely based on challenger buyers and how satisfied they are with their purchase. maybe someday the immaturity will end and we can all talk about how we got 426 hemis and ls9s under our hoods. man this really saddens me as a muscle car guy.

I love Consumer Reports, its comical. I love how they plugged a BMW that wasn't even on the list while saying that buyers should test drive as many cars as they can before making a decision(the most basic advice in the world).

Yup.

All this article says is that Challenger owners are happy with their Challengers. It doesn't say anything about beating Camaros. It's the holiday season, let 'em be happy in an American made bash free zone.
