Computer woes...
So last week I tried to turn on my laptop and it wouldn't turn on so into the shop it went for it's yearly repair.
That didn't make me mad, it had been a while since the last time i had problems with it, and it is still under warranty. It is when i decided to hook up my pride and joy gaming desktop for the first time since i had moved into the new house three months ago. I hooked it all up, and had it setting on my desk, and I pushed the power button. The computer kicked on, but my flat panel LCD monitor didn't. For a few days i played with it and gained nothing......I love it when things just STOP WORKING for no reason whatsoever!!!So I get a loaner monitor from my neighbor and hooked it up. Pushed the power button, and the monitor worked! windows starts loading and........oh wait a minute it shuts down.....what the.... I push the power button again.....same....... .....Now I turn it on and it just sits there......ON.....Doing nothing.......not thinking, not loading, just sitting there...........................................ON .....:bangdesk: ![]() I think its laughing at me ... ![]() I'm broke, and not sacrificing a dime from the car fund. Any ideas would be appreciated. I think it's a software problem but if the computer won't turn on how do i fix a software problem???

Sounds like one of two things...
Corrupted windows files (boot, reg, drivers) Failed hardware For the windows stuff, drop in your os disk and see if you can get it to repair (or restore if you have that turned on) If that doesnt work, spend $20.00 and get a usb external adapter for internal had drives and pull your files/info off the original disk and then reformat/rebuild. For hardware, pull EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING off the mainboard, boot it without mouse/speakers/HD/ram/sound/video(use buildt in, if not avialable use your current video card) if its stable in the bios (the only thing you can get into like this) then start adding items one at a time starting with video, then ram, then hd, and so on. PS. I feel your frustration I just rebuilt my machine swapping from xp X64 to vista business, now i have some items on my list..

Disconnect power, open the case. Unplug and reconnect EVERY plug in. Something was likely jarred loose during the move. Software is unlikely unless you changed something, shut down then moved. If it was working before the move, I'd look more towards hardware than software. Might check the power supply for signs of overheating.

I'm typing on a borrowed computer right now. I came home one night and my laptop was off - which was odd b/c I always leave it on. I powered it back on and it started its "Resuming Windows" phase and then powered off again. I tried to power it up again but nothing. Dead.
I took it to a repair shop and they told me that my AC adaptor/charger was fluctuating wildly in the power it was giving my laptop and that a possible surge had knocked my computer out. They didn't know at the time if any damage was possibly done. Cross your fingers for the both of us.

Sorry, I walked away from it for a while. still the same, I got a hold of some parts from my friends computer, and replaced everything but the graphics card and the power supply just to see if I could narrow it down to a hardware problem, and It gave me the same results. So maybe a graphics card malfunction, It is the oldest part on my computer.
Could the power supply be a problem if it still turns on?I just thought of another problem that i discovered while messing with it. My DVD drive refused to open while the computer was supposedly on, so i started to take it out i removed the IDE cable connected to it, and "Presto" it opened right up. so my disc drive only opens when power only is connected to it, then when i plug the IDE cable back in, it refuses to open. It used to work fine.

I'm beginning to think that it just recieved a power surge and fried the whole works, but the mother board has been in the back of my mind.
