I'm fairly certain that a cop can't give you a ticket for doing 5 mph over the speed limit... and he can't give you a ticket without clocking your speed with a radar gun.

Those radar guns have a margin of error of 1.5 mph.... meaning that if you really wanted to push it to court, you have to be going at least 7mph over the speed limit before your eligible for a ticket that will stand up.... all of this coming from a friend of mine who usually knows weird things like this.

I am not prepared to predict how that decision would turn out.

I think the course this thread has taken is hilarious. Somehow we started with PQ getting a ticket to this point where it's more about streaking, naked chicks, hiding in a trailer from crazy girl stuff, then back to eating sausages. So just as the party got interesting we're back to a sausage fest. Nice job guys.

Here in Cairo, IL, we have a no foot pursuit policy. You run, we hit you with the car.

One of my foot pursuits almost ended that way, except I was in a new car. No way I was denting it with that idiot, lol. I caught him in a block and tackled him in the middle of the street. Then took a breather sitting on his face down back, lol.

Don't do that. Seriously. You just admitted to speeding, and that's all that is required. i pull someone over for 80 in a 65, they say they had the cruise set to 75, I note that on the citation. That way if they decide to fight it, guess what? Confession right there. Guilty as charged. Again, don't do that.

Contrary to popular belief, it's illegal, at least in Illinois, to have quotas. We are empowered to write as many tickets as we want, lol, but we DON'T have to write any. At least in my department.

Yea, Chicago has a no chase policy, for vehicle pursuits anyway...

And yea, listen to him PQ, just ask 'what seems to be the problem' or just say you don't know. Because like he said, they write it down!

Well. I've been over this with my best freind who is a Trooper here in Alabama. He said the same thing but if the officer is gonna write it, he's gonna write it. If he pulled you over for speeding, then he doesn't need you to admit it. If you weren't speeding and he says you were, then he's gonna lie anyway.

I think they should be required to generate the ticket from the radar. Where the speed HAS to have been captured by the radar with a timer to reset if the citation isn't validated in a certain time frame and speed and time stamp from the radar. I do believe that pacing is justified for an LEO to write tickets but stationary tickets should be done differently.

Anyway. This guy got me and wrote me the ticket. So I can only hope that he meets one of those by the book no nonsense cops who don't give ANYONE a break and gets a BS ticket himself. Funny thing is, I KNOW he would flash that badge and not get the ticket.

Once again. I know I was speeding. I know the law. I'm just saying I thought he was a dick for writing me a ticket for 6 over on a wide open interstate at midnight with little traffic.

If I were an officer, I'd MUCH rather hear

"Yes, I was doing 71 mph"

than

"I don't know how fast I was going"

(considering I was only doing 6 over)
