In the middle of this financial crisis let me say one thing: "no one know anything about anything"

You can't be serious. Do you actually think that it's possible to discuss the management of a car company that has 60% of it's stock owned by the Government, and ignore the political aspect of it? Am I the only one who's noticed the elephant in the room?

If it's possible to have an entire forum (GMInsideNews) dedicated to a company that has 60% of its stock owned by the government and refrain from politics, it's more than possible for a single thread to do the same.

Yes he is serious. There is a reason why we don't allow politics on this forum. So you either abide by the rules or you won't last too long here.

Whitacre may have been a "whiz kid" in other businesses...but this is GM...it has to deal with an unusually strong union that can hamstring ANYTHING he tries to do to reduce costs and raise quality levels if they choose to. Its a whole new ballgame for him. He may have had to deal with unions before, but nothing like what the UAW is like.

Maybe GM and the government will be smart enough to hire someone from an automobile producer...someone that is SUCCESSFUL at least please...and maybe, just maybe they can survive. A non-automotive person at the helm in a time that the government owns 60% of the company and is calling for "high-efficiency" vehicles is not a good sign. Maybe that is the pressure that Fritz was facing and he wouldn't cave. Wouldn't we love to know.

Okay. I will fill in from the news that are at the front of all Swedish newspapers today.
What did not get mentioned was that delegates from the Swedish government traveled to Detroit for todays meeting, where the future strategy of SAAB was discussed.
If no-one buys SAAB off of GM in 30 days. The brand gets killed.

And the "Fire:ing" of Fritz..

Here's what a Swedish Auto Journalist Robert Collin commented on "Aftonbladet" Swedens largest newspaper. (My Translation)

"The Reason according to my sources is mainly the porly handled "Opel-deal".
Angela Merkel paid out a multi billion loan to Opel, a loan that was supposed to not have any "conditions", the loan(s) should of not hav had any conditions to any particular purchaser.
But in reality the loan(s) had conditions towards that a sparepartscompany named "Magna" would be able to buy Opel off of GM.

Which later on showed to be a problem. As Opel was not gonna be sold. And GM therefore GM was forced to start repaying the loan back to Merkel. Something that definetly was not planned upon.

The Board of GM think that Fritz Henderson did not conduct that item correctly. Therefore he is forced to resign."

From: "http://blogg.aftonbladet.se/robertcollin"

Two out of three of his deals failed and the company is still losing money. When you have to report that you lost less money than you thought you would things are not good. Especially when at the same time your borrowing billions from Europe.
