Cool!

Glad you hear it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been.

By the end of today, Florida is supposed to have three named storms off the coast..... YippEEEE!!!

It's like we expect the restoration process to run without a hitch. And things to be back to normal in a matter of months.... Try Decades... Lets use the Tsunami that hit Asia a few years earlier. They are still no where near to getting back to where they were before the Tsunami. Yet N.O. is salvageable and largely back on track. Is it completely restored? No. Will it be yes. Would any other organization in the entire world be able to restore N.O. faster or better than our country can? No. These are huge problems that McGyver can't fix with a roll of duct tape, some alligator scales and chewing gum. Big problems cost big bucks and need big time and will have big shortfalls. Why do we have such unattainable standards? It's called a disaster for a reason.

Are we so arrogant to expect our leaders (all of them) to be absolutely perfect. We need to be a bit more realistic about what it takes to fix huge problems like this.
I couldn't have said it better,

I guess this season is trying to go out with a bang. Looks like they're getting pretty good at modeling the tracks. If Hanna holds true to the predictions Charleston is going to take this pounding and surfers are going to have some good riding in Floridia. Ike is something I'll have to watch for a while.

The good news is the oil platforms have prooven through two major storms that they can hold up... Now if the speculators could just figure that out.... Well, in light of oil prices maybe they have... for now...

One of the problems with FEMA during Katrina was that it was in the middle of reorganizing under the Department of Homeland Security. It takes years for this process to complete, and it ruins any hope of an agency doing its job until the process is done.

Of course, another major problem was that Louisiana didn't ask for help in time, then President Bush didn't authorize it fast enough, and, finally, that New Orleans didn't keep up the levees.

There's a lot of blame to be had for Katrina. I put most of it on the crab people.
