GM is shooting for gold with the Camaro and with the IRS and advancements in technology, it will compare to the handling (((( IMO )))) .

If it doesn't, one must agree.....30K vs.55K (or whatever the M5 is) ....you are going to have some cash left over buying the Camaro. If it doesn't compare in the twisties, a few bucks (FOR SURE not as much as an M5 would cost) and you WILL take the M5.

I'll have to agree w/ Dragon on this one. But, disagreement makes for good discussion. All I ask is that we be nice in the discussion. Let's not call people wrong...say their thought process is wrong, etc. Just disagree respectfully so we can discuss and move along.

Thanks guys.

I think they also cited the Coupe at 4.8 seconds. And from every test I've seen it's done better than that. Like 4.3 seconds from C&D and R&T.

The M3 is pretty amazing. It's a great car. I have no doubt the M3 would spank the Camaro on a track. And guys who are buying Camaros aren't likely to have M3 money to spend. So there's no point in saying "If you buy the Camaro and put 20k in it, it'll spank the M3. While you may be able to put 20k in mods into a Camaro and get better than M3 performance, there's no point in comparing a stock car to a heavily modded one.

That being said, if the Camaro is as good as indicated, it'll be a much better Value than the M3. That's something worth considering.

And the Challenger's IRS is old. From the Mercedes E-class from a few generations ago or so. The independent suspension in the Camaro has been tuned and tuned and tuned. And perhaps the challenger has an edge because it's made by a luxury car manufacturer, but the Camaro has had lots of tuning and development done. With a manual transmission, I have a feeling the Camaro is going to kick the ass of the dodge. And we've all read the reviews. Like 3 out of 4 of them specifically state that the Camaro makes the dodge feel unrefined.

You also have to consider the convertible is much heavier than the Coupe. It's got that retractable hardtop and the dual clutch transmission.

Just for the record, I like the M3. But like I said in my previous post, the Camaro is a better value. The M3 uses a lot of cool features. Insanely high revving small displacement V8 that puts out good power (but not much torque.). It's a couple hundred pounds lighter than the Camaro (in coupe form both with manual transmissions) it's most likely going to have a better quality interior.

While looks are subjective I appreciate both. The M3 has that muscular look that's very subtle. The Camaro's look screams bad intentions.

I don't see any reason to hate the M3. It's fast in a straight line, it's fast around a track not to mention fun to drive. It's good looking. High tech fun gadgetry in it. All good reasons to like it.

Explain why you guys don't? Is it the BMW badge? The snobbery that comes with owning one?

I have a feeling the 6 speed viper manual vs the gm manual is going to be a very very tight race.

I've seen the gearing of the GM version, but I don't know if I've seen the gearing of the Dodges. Are they the same?

I bet it'll be a tight race in a straight line. The Camaro does have wider tires though not by much. And it has launch control. Will the Dodge have that? The clear advantage as far as gearing goes will go to the Dodge. The manual version gets 3.91s. The Manual Camaro gets like 3.42. Doesn't sound like much, but guys over on the GTO board switch out their 3.42s for 3.91s and knock a few tenths off their 1/4mile time. Maybe that's dodge's answer to the Camaro's lighter weight.

Yea it has 392 gears and limited slip differentials with ESP not sure what the difference is. Either way I cant wait to see a magazine with no imports on the cover that says "HEAD TO HEAD PURE AMERICAN MUSCLE CHALLENGER SRT8 VS CAMARO SS"

Ok I dont think its that underrated. If smoked a 335ci in a G35. Its rated at 307. So I dontthink the 335 can put out that much at the dyno

335i has put down I think 287-290 rwhp so that is way less than the average drivetrain loss.

you might have smoked a 335 with a g35 because the driver sucked, props to you but it should be the 335 beating you IMO. But congrats anyway.
