Secondly, having two otherwise identical cars with different styling just seems a bit vain. I mean, GM has to convince consumers that they've changed and the products are high quality now. They need to keep improving quality to avoid returning to the bad old days and keep innovating to stay compelling. Spending the effort to rebadge and restyle a clone car gives off the (probably accurate) impression that GM is not focused on quality or innovation, but instead wrapping the same product in different clothes and "trying to fool" the consumer. I actually think the best argument against the Trans-Am was made by somebody who was trying to argue for it: "It worked in the 70s and 80s". That should tell you enough right there.

I think there would have to be a major styling difference betwen the T/A and the Camaro, similar to what GM did with the Soltice and Sky. Make the T/A more aero dynamic a little less square and rigid, so that it is somewhat different, instead of just a Camaro with a nose job.

I hope pontiac get's it's own coupe based off the coupe 60. A Camaro knockoff would be stupid.

GM has axed the Kappa II platform so models like the Sky, Soltice, and Astra are history.

The Astra isn't on Kappa. It's FWD.

Actually, I think, but I might be wrong, that the current Astra is on a different platform than the current Cobalt. I think the next generation compact cars will all merge onto Delta. (or is it Delta 2?)

OK - you're betting on the come that GM keeps the Pontiac moniker through the restructuring. It wouldn't surprise me if Pontiac and Buick disappear ala Oldsmobile to keep the company afloat. You can beef up the performance lines of Chevrolet with the Pontiacs and have a new low-end starter line with the Buicks under Cadillac.
Just some random thinking out loud.... |
