lol Texan, and this one is their leader. Story is this cat was found in a dumpster bechind a fast-food retaurant (probably casing the joint), hence the name "Burger and Fries". Poor kitty must have had a bad time with humans.

I've had goats on my car and not scratch it (they were up there because the car was under a tree, making it easier to get at the leaves). The paw prints you saw could be from some other critter.

I would also think that a cat would use the car cover as a scratching post, the thicker the cover the better the scratching post. Plus it would be a pain to have to uncover and recover all the time.

Catnip somewhere else along with some pepper around your car should work though.

So anyways, here's my plan:

Since everyone's saying cayenne pepper (and it's cheap) I think I'll start with that. I don't want it to blow all over since my kids are outside a lot, so I think I'll take the advice of the person who said to put tape upside down around the perimeter of the car. I'll put down several strip of duct tape, tape them to to floor of the carport to keep them from moving and pour the pepper all over the top of the tape. That way the pepper stays where it's supposed to be. Thanks a bunch guys (and ladies), I'll let you know how it works out.

No I am saying that if someone came to me and said "Hey lock up your cats, they are scratching up my pretty and expensive new car" if they didnt know it was my cats. I would tell them to piss off. And I own cats. Have three that sleep on my truck nightly. And then there are the neighborhood strays as well. No marks on the car are from the cats. Raccoons yes. The barn owners dogs. Hell yes. My doors are all scratched up. But not from the cats.
either get sides on the car port. or buy a decent cover. What are you gonna do when a bird inevitably shits on it? Speak with mother nature or God about it? Or when it gets a rock kicked up at it from the road? Call the highway dept and tell them they have to pay for the repair? really now. Its a car. Unless you never drive it or take it out of a environmentally controlled storage unit .. it's gonna get dings, scratches and such. Its called life

That will keep the cat off the tape but not the car.
They can jump over the tape & on the car, no big deal for a cat.

Build a garage or move into house with one. Another idea is to move into area with lots of wild critters. Like Bear, Cougar, Bobcat. Your domestic cat problem will cease. Since I moved to a rural area in the forest I don't have problems with the nieghbors cats.

Here's a still pic of my next door neighbor's cat on my car. I'd say that's pretty damning evidence. BTW, as you can see this was before I got the vinyl stripe in in June, so this has been going on for a looong time. $500 vinyl stripes and cat claws do not mix.

Curious, if your neighbor was mowing his lawn and you saw a rock fly out from under his mower and bust your windshield would you hold him responsible for the repairs or would that just be "life"? Or how about if he had his roof reshingled and a roofing nail made it into your tire? As far as a bird pooping on my car... the bird doesn't have an owner, same with a rock. The cat belongs to my neighbor. If it wasn't for my neighbor the cat wouldn't be there, therefore the neighbor is responsible.

Trying to video again...

Make sure you have your sound on, although not too loud. Your eardrums might bleed.

Thanks Texan

So the smell of the pepper alone won't deterr her? She has to step on it?
