With Catholicism, you might want to take into account the political institution as well as the religious one. Unlike most religions, Catholics have a religion tied into a state that engages in trade, government, and diplomacy. While the Vatican does not have its own military, the Holy Roman Empire, the predecessor of the Vatican, once had a powerful military and waged war for purely religious reasons and to expand its influence. In stark contrast to other religions, even ones with religious governments, like Iran, the Vatican's authority transcends its boundaries. Other nations may be inspired by religious doctrine but even moderate theocrats do not actually tend to hold the top positions of power. A prime example of this is Israel, which has a parliamentary government with a constitution vaguely guided by Judaism but has a secular government like that of the United States. Catholicism would be a great study in religion since it is so unique.

I didn't go to a catholic church meeting though. I went with my mom to her church, which is the local cowboy church. Its technically non-denominational, but its really close to baptist in my opinion.

Also - the paper is to write about a religious event from the point of view of an alien visiting earth, who comes from a planet with no concept of religion, as he observes a religious event for the first time.

Youtube videos:

Dark (the light isn't actually quite this bright - though its still bright - the camera got a bit light washed because I had to hold it fairly close to the brake light in order to be able to reach the wires/battery):

Light (under a direct UV lamp):

Like I said - its not really that bright in real life. The camera didn't have enough time to react to the light from the flashes. I probably should have held the light on solid for a few seconds so you could see the camera adjust. I mean, its bright enough to be seen, but its not blindingly bright by any means.

In my opinion, its just bright enough to make up for the fact that I only have one brake light instead of three like a car.

P.S. - if you watch the video real close you can see the edges of the light start to shrink just before the light turns off. Thats the lens starting to adjust. If I had given it a few more seconds it would have continue to dim until the camera was picking up a more accurate light. The human eye adjusts much more quickly.

Well, I am sure its bright though. I mean, yea the camera can't adjust as quick as the human eye does, but I'm sure its still going to do a really good job

Takes about 2 full seconds for it to adjust.

I'll record another video to show you what I mean... one second.

On second thought, a picture is easier because I don't have to upload it to youtube blah blah blah.

Anyway, here is what it looks like with lights off and with the camera adjusted to the light properly:
