I think that Mars is going to be colonized too.

I am a firm believer that our space program is one of the greatest things of our generation. We can accomplish so much!

That could be in the near future now that Stem Cell research is really heating up.

Just beneath this.

If fusion power's arrival date has remained constantly 50 years away since 1958, why would helium-3 suddenly make fusion power more feasible?
I think you should probably go back and re-read the article, it present both side`s of the HE3 argument.

Quote from article;

"He3-He3 is not an easy reaction to promote," Kulcinski says. "But He3-He3 fusion has the greatest potential." That's because helium-3, unlike tritium, is nonradioactive, which, first, means that Kulcinski's reactor doesn't need the massive containment vessel that deuterium-tritium fusion requires. Second, the protons it produces--unlike the neutrons produced by deuterium-tritium reactions--possess charges and can be contained using electric and magnetic fields, which in turn results in direct electricity generation. Kulcinski says that one of his graduate assistants at the Fusion Technology Institute is working on a solid-state device to capture the protons and convert their energy directly into electricity.

Oh and one other thing, those who think that NASA is a waste of money, NASA accounts for less than 1 percent of the federal budget.

my point is that if the Constitution says that exploration (sea, space, or new land) is something the government cannot legally do, then NASA shouldn't be able to accept tax payer dollars...

labor unions had their place in history, but in todays world they are antiquated.. much like pagers and phone booths... perfect example is the UAW causing financial problems with GM...

the real underlying problem with our country today is that people have this idea that government is supposed to solve all of our problems... this is not how our fathers intended for it to be..

Well I'll say it again, sort of rehashing myself-I hate getting the last post on a page-everyone hits last, but oh well- you can suffer through it . 3 key points.

1st of all, there is medical technology being invented right now that at this time can ONLY take place in 0 gravity (see cartilege on last page as an example).

2nd, Would anyone really argue that the next military technology race is going to be control of space? The Chinese are pushing there, the Euro's are pushing there, it was a good share of what broke the USSR. If there is water on the moon, that means that we can power and resupply from the moon. Which is MUCH cheaper than refueling on Earth.

2b, Openly going to the moon with a military presence likely equals immediate war- so you go up with allies in a peaceful scientific manner and establish a presence. You start problem solving and finding out the best ways to harvest water and energy prior to it being an emergency.

3. Power, that article didn't go into the full He3 thing. As I understand it, Helium is volatile in atmosphere and wants to turn into He2 or other compounds immediately. The 3rd He is what makes it useful. It can't occur in any useful quantity in the presence of air- and even without Fusion it's instant energy because it's immediately fissionable without any heavy metal left-overs.

Woah, wait a second. Where in the constitution does it say we can't explore using tax payers money? My understanding was the entire grow or die portion of manifest destiny required us to explore as a proactive means of providing for the common defense.

Manifest Destiny was used to annex the Republic of Texas, then later incorporated the idea which the US should control the North American continent from ocean to ocean... some people believe that it also includes Mexico and Canada... thats where it ends... Hawaii was annexed by the same emotional debate in 1898.. i'd like to see the US expand just like most others, but there should be limits on how far our government goes to support these projects...

All this talk of water on the moon. I don't believe it for a second. It's too darn cold.
