Their V-3s were very successful in Moto-GP.

And the next VFR is supposed to be a V-5

one thing to keep in mind tho is these are motorcycle motors. a lot less rotating mass to fight when making a motor. i had to explain to a guy who is used to bikes reving to 15000 rpms that you cant spin a v-8 to that unless its built for it. smaller motor= smaller rotating mass, easier to spin, easier to balance.

the problem with e-chargers is that, yes in 1 instance there is a significant increase. but how much of an increase was it? 10%? 20%? 30%? 40%?

...
not going to happen.

That's what I'm saying.

It was about a 30% increase but again it came at the cost of having to carry around a rack of deep cycle batteries.

So you get a power increase which is negated immediately by the extra weight necessary to create it.

Simplified Law of Thermodynamics:
1) You can't get something for nothing.
2) You can't win.
3) You have to lose.

One day when I was vacuuming out my car I saw the WOT switch for my nitrous oxide system. I made me think of running avariable resistor on the pedal to operate a separate electric motor with a cogged belt straight to a pulley on the front of the crankshaft. Maybe a quick OBD hack to read the TPS. Get it to power on when the throttle goes open after being closed and when it goes WOT and then regenerate at closed throttle.

Homebuilt hybrid!

I'm going to be rich! Right?!

Not so much.

I was informed that that's pretty much how Saturn's hybrid works

Man this is an old thread...

Maybe if you did an inline engine with the large cylinder in the middle, flanked by two smaller cylinders on either side?

That might help the balance issues... wouldn't fix the drivability though.

Its not a straight-5 thats the topic of discussion...

Is it possible to build an ( example of what I am talking about) 5 cylinder engine, but have a the 5th cylinder larger than the other 4 and it is only activated when the engine needs more power, kind of like AFM but....not

And here another question, how come automakers don't use cylinders with an odd number, like V3, V7, V9, V11, etc
You would need to have them be inline and not the V design otherwise you would have a vibration problem.

it doesnt even have to be a 5cyl. a 2 cyl, or a 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 whatever cyl... with a setup with certain cyl(s) larger than the others.

unless you did a dual large setup with one on either side to offset the balance
