Why is that the real question? The ZR1X is already going to be over 200k and it's a Chevrolet.

I think the real question is are we going to get a V8 in a couple/sedan that normal folks can afford.

Define normal.

With the average price approaching $50k, to me that is already outside a "normal persons" price range. A 6th gen SS started at what $48-$49? I would not be surprised at all to see it start in mid $50's

How about...

You define "normal folk" as a seden. I know the average American is fat but I wouldn't go that far...

I guess it's relative, but 50s is much closer/accessible. especially if said sedan rumored is practical enough to serve as an only car (versus the Camaro).

And remember the strange comments from Reuss "I think that formula of beauty – and a little bit of functionality and fun – all of that is important. If we were getting back into Camaro, that piece of it is really important”

So what is he saying there? It needs to be more functional than a 2 door coupe to appeal to more folks, at worst a CUV and at best a hatchback. I think he's saying we can't release a low volume toy that'll serve as a 2nd/3rd car.

I don't know what to expect except a Gen7 Camaro is probably not a priority.

This is the route I am expecting. It will be trucks and Corvettes first, then the Corvette version going into whatever low roof variant (GM-speak for coupes and sedans) gets a Chevrolet badge. Probably a 4-door and/or hatchback. Name? I'm not sure that's all sorted out internally, though one of my internal sources tells me Camaro gets tossed around a lot.

Unfortunately, as you said the average price of a car is approaching 50k. Even if this car is badged as a Chevy I think starting price will be 55k-60k. Imo that’s too much and I under all cars are expensive now. I’m officially priced out of the new car market. Instead of spending 60k on an NA V8, I’d rather spend 40-60k on 10 year old supercharged V8’s that won’t depreciate like a brick after I buy it.

If GM by miracle of good sense gives us a V6, can it be a 304?
L8T is the iron block Medium / Heavy Truck version that is already being built in Flint, Michigan. The Light Duty Truck / Passenger Vehicle version will be same or similar displacement and will be built in Tonawanda, New York (Buffalo). I wouldn't expect a V6. They already have the CSS family that already builds everything from a 1.5L 4-cylinder to a 3.0L inline 6.

Price creep (leap?) is happening no matter what GM decides to do with the Gen VI V8. The average cost of a new vehicle in the US in December was $50,325. Yup, we done crossed the 50 mark.

The way automakers and dealers are bridging this is to focus on the monthly payment. I remember when average car loan term was 36 months. Then 48. Now it's 60 with a lot of 72 month loans and there are already a few examples of 84 month loans. So, from 36 months to 84 months in my car-buying lifetime. Sheesh.

Ford did recently trademark "Mach 4" rumored to be a 4 door ICE Mustang. Maybe that makes the Camaro more likely.

Yeah, that's a thing. It was actually expected to be on the ground in around 2023 - 24 as a hybrid but Ford backed off of that plan. Not sure if it is still going to be a hybrid or not.

Ford had set up a strategy about 10 years ago that was going to focus on (3) micro-brands with each micro-brand having multiple configurations.

F150: ICE pickups / Raptor / EV
Bronco: Bronco / Bronco Sport / Bronco EV
Mustang: Mustang Coupe / Mustang Mach E / Mustang Sedan

The stuff in bold is what is already in place. Yes, the F150 EV is being dropped, but will be replaced by an EREV.

And GM does tend to watch/wait and then respond. I am wondering if this is another example. Perhaps they are waiting to see how Mustang variants do. Personally, if it's 4 door, i'd like to see another nameplate on this car but that's just me. I'm stuck on how cool a recreation of the Impala SS would be. On the other hand, not too long ago I would have bet good money against GM offering anything like this.
