Anyone who owns a car should have an OBDII reader. Only $20-$40 for a good one that can read/clear codes.

One year I grabbed a few small gift cards and used https://giftcardmall.org to check balances and manage them before wrapping. Super simple way to give something useful without stressing over picking the exact item.

was gonna say this that my son who owns a Lego store gifted me for my retirement this past summer. But damn, after looking, I see they retail for over $200! I did just buy the light kit for it at $16.99 though.
