In the article… talking about driving SS-badged Camaros or Chevelles…

“ armored weasel fights going on under the hood.”

Kind of nails it, don’t ya think?

I've made this same point before even conceding they (BEV) are often faster than ICE counterpart. It doesn't matter. I was at a OBX Rod & Custom Festival over the weekend, fairly certain there will never be that type of passion for the opportunity to drive a large battery on wheels.

You are not wrong. Thing is, who makes car purchase decisions based on what happens at motorsports events. It USED TO BE win on Sunday sell on Monday. Hasn’t been that way in a couple decades though. When it comes down to the basic functionality that people want from their daily driver, getting to work and running errands, BEVs do that as well as, sometimes better than ICE vehicles. That’s why my daily is a BEV. But I still have gears and oil in my soul so my weekends belong to my Camaro and my MR2.

Yup, I get it, especially as expensive as cars have become over the years relative to income. A lot of folks must prioritize comfort, reliability, and convenience. I am blessed enough to buy the right tool for the job at hand as you are as well it sounds like. Maybe synthetic fuels will save us one day and at least allow racing and enthusiasts to carry on.

The House Ways and Means Committee has sent a massive bill (I refuse to reference the name of it) to the full House for approval. If it passes the House it moves to the Senate. If approved at the Senate it is positioned for POTUS to sign into law. This would essentially accelerate the termination of the credits from current law date of December 31, 2032 to the new date of December 31, 2025. Verbatim bill language below in BLUE.

TLDR - If approved in both houses of Congress, the EV incentive will end 12/31/25.

On page 29 of the 47 page bill…

Part 1 - Working Families Over Elites

Sec. 112001. Termination of previously-owned clean vehicle credit.
Current Law: Under current law, taxpayers may claim a tax credit for previously-owned clean vehicles. The credit is worth the lesser of $4,000 or 30% of the sale price and is limited to incomes of $75,000 for single filers, $112,500 for head of household filers, and $150,000 for joint filers. The credit is set to expire December 2032.

Provision: This provision accelerates the expiration to December 31, 2025.

Sec. 112002. Termination of clean vehicles credit.
Current Law: Nader current law taxpayers may claim a tax credit of up to $7,500 for clean new vehicles placed in service in a given taxable year. The maximum credit is comprised of two equal parts: the first $3,750 credit value is determined based on the critical mineral sourcing of the vehicle battery and the second $3,750 credit value is determined based on the sourcing of the battery components. The credit is limited to incomes of $150,000 for single filers, $225,000 for head of household filers, and $300,000 for joint filers. The credit is available to vans with a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $80,000, SUVs with MSRP of $80,000, pickup trucks with a MSRP of $80,000, and other vehicles with a MSRP of $55,000. The credit is set to expire December 31, 2032.

Provision: This provision accelerates the expiration to December 31, 2025. This provision also implements a special rule for taxable year 2026 that only allows vehicles produced by manufacturers that have not sold 200,000 new clean vehicles as of December 31, 2025, to qualify for the credit.

Sec. 112003. Termination of qualified commercial clean vehicles credit.
Current Law: Under current law, taxpayers may claim a tax credit for commercial clean vehicles placed in service in a taxable year. For vehicles weighing less than 14,000 pounds the credit value is $7,500 and for other vehicles the credit is $40,000. The credit is set to expire December 31, 2032.

Provision: This provision accelerates the expiration to December 31, 2025. This provision also implements a special rule allowing vehicles acquired pursuant to a written binding contract entered into before May 12, 2025 to qualify for the credit.

Good.

This is what over 77 million wanted (reversal of Federal Support for EV Adoption) so file it under "promises made, promises kept" once it's signed into law.

Next step would be to build out safe/secure nuclear reactors (including small modular ones), improve the grid (lots to do there, think "emp") and incent manufacturers to build HEVs domestically. Cherry on top would be the 7gen ICE Camaro...

I fully support that piece of the bill.

Common sense makes sense as we unburden our burdens.

Or at least adjust/remove the weight class for pickup trucks that has effectively killed small lightweight & efficient pickups in the marketplace. No sense in that.

The current CAFE standards are broken, and the extension of CARB into brake pads and "brake cleaner" is ridiculous. California "AIR" resources board should have no jurisdiction over brake pads. But they get away with it and that's wrong.

But unfortunately neither are in the 1BBB.
