So I built a "don't crash my new car into the back of my garage" system today. A 4x4 with some floor mats nailed to it. It's pretty slick.
Basically, you put the 4x4 on the ground with the mats about wheel-width apart. When you drive onto the mats, they hold the 4x4 in place, and when you bump the 4x4 with your tires, you know to stop. I wasn't so much worried about hitting the wall as I was about scraping the bottom of the car against the ridiculous concrete "step" that is in the back of my garage. You can't see it from the driver's seat, and I need to pull up as far as possible in order to close the garage. Don't really have a reason for telling this story -- just thought it was cool and wanted to share. Even though it's only a board and some mats, it looks a lot cleaner than hanging a tennis ball from the ceiling...

Ugh, the WORST! My girlfriend lives in an apartment complex, and I had to park the new ride there for the first time last night. The spots are TINY! Luckily I found a single spot between a dumpster "basin" and a row of garages -- one parking spot between 2 concrete walls, so no chance of door dings. Just gotta keep my fingers crossed that the same spot is available every time I go there.... :/

Apparently the prius driver her disgrees - he like the park partway in a spot, partway in the crosswalk.
