Want to just quietly go to the store? Turn all the VR stuff off and you're driving a golf cart.

Want to drive a 60's style street racer? Set the VR stuff to "huge lumpy cam" mode with Thrush muffler exhaust sound

Want to not be that obnoxious? Dial it back.

The possibilities are endless.

And who really cares if people think its goofy because its fun as hell and your car is, in all likelihood, faster than theirs anyway.
Not too long ago I hooked up with my first girlfriend. We’d met in 1995. She’s divorced now, and we “reconnected”……

She got implants 20 years ago.

I can tell you there is a difference between real and simulated. Natural will always be more fun.

Trust me, as you get older you'll learn to appreciate the gravity defying benefits of "enhacements".

Well, that escalated quickly.

I saw one of those classics last month. A beautiful black 57 bel aire with fuel inj badges! Hard to get more cool than that for the era, it had that lumpy cam v8 as you said. Along with the oil smoke as he took off like many of the era cars that the rings and valve seals don't hold up like nowdays.
At the first stoplight I took off like normal for the dual motor Y performance boost of about 1/3 throttle. I could see him and the rest of the traffic far behind.
The next light I had a feeling he might want to show me what his v8 could do. I was correct. I only lightly accelerated and let him gap me making wonderful sounds and oil smoke. Why ruin his day with his wife in the passenger seat
But I'd rather have a VR version that doesn't come with the No AC and bad handling and braking and road noise and mpg and all the rest that comes with the real version classic.

I can see where someone may appreciate the adjustable character of an EV...
For me, I enjoy the adjustable character of my car via the skinny pedal :-)

I stumbled upon a Ford Flathead article in a recent Hagerty magazine. Somebody needs to forward this thread to these guys and let them know that the fun they are having isn't real.

I got to drive an all original 1938 Pontiac with the Silver Streak straight 8. All original. 3 speed on the tree. Banjo steering wheel spokes. And it was fully loaded too: had the optional heater, automatic turn signals, and reverse light! It might have been the most fun I’ve ever had driving a car, and yes including my 460 hp 2024 Camaro with all the modern whiz-bang tech.

You have to mash the starter switch on the floor to start it. That big, heavy all cast iron 8 cylinder churns to life like igniting an industrial blower at a steel mill, it doesn’t “fire up”. It seems slow to accelerate by modern standards of course but I had no idea ho ultra-buttery smooth and torquey those old in-line engines were. It only receded to maybe 3500 but you got into 3rd quickly and then it was 1:1. At 50 mph you don’t even hear the engine running! Easy to drive with manual steering and drum brakes - so long as you’re not driving like a banshee the brakes and steering were great.

Cars then were really much more connected to the road. Of course that ‘57 Bel Air surely handled even better with independent control arms replacing a solid beam front axle and kingpins. But we’ve certainly lost a lot of direct connection to cars since that Bel Air was built.

Yes it’s made driving easier and dumbed it down for everyone (in ‘38 there wasn’t even the term “automatic transmission”) and yes cars are faster, safer, the whole nine yards…..

But it’s just really enjoyable to be so directly connected to a car that won’t do a thing if you don’t know what you’re doing on choke, shifting, braking, and steering.

Another article going against the prescribed narrative:

https://www.aier.org/article/fords-m...evs-explained/

Quote:
The problem was the vehicle’s range. When the weather grew colder, Puglia found that the distance his vehicle could travel fell dramatically. His faith in the $79,000 truck dampened, and he found himself wondering if he should sell it.
“People say ‘range anxiety’ — it’s like it’s the driver’s fault,” Puglia told the Times. “But it’s not our fault. It’s actually they’re not telling us what the real range is. The truck says it’s 300 miles. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten that.”

Quote:
One reason charging infrastructure has lagged is due to the federal government’s incompetence. Nearly three years ago, the U.S. Departments of Transportation and Energy announced a $5 billion spending effort to build fleets of charging stations to lead “an electric vehicle revolution.” As of the summer of 2024, just seven charging stations had been built.
“That is pathetic,” said US Sen. Jeff Merkley, a Democrat from Oregon. “We’re now three years into this … That is a vast administrative failure.”

I'm sure the money is recoverable, right?

But it’s ok to post a video showed her being “connected” with said politician.

Got it.

I am sorta getting her vision. I have to sit and ponder how GM gave up making good sedans and only made fleet vehicles for so many years. I have to sit and contemplate is she now trying to bring GM back to a car that people want vs foisted on gov entities or rental car companies and old brand loyal people?
I am concerned she doesn't include hybrids because USA is more like a few different countries in one so using another country or city as a model as what EV acceptance can be due to infrastructure, geography as well as climate and mental climate won't translate well to the USA.
Seems smart but not brilliant; but what CEOs are? So my buy sell hold would be hold
