C8 ZR1

Any body else catch this little gem. 1064 hp 828 ftlbs of torque, twin turbo LT7 with a 215+ mph top speed. I’ve not been as huge of a fan of the C8 as I am the C7, but GM nailed this car out of park. I’m really impressed.

Unbelievable power numbers, esp without hybrid assist. So happy GM did it the right way. Can’t believe this exists. 1064 hp American hypercar with a factory warranty.

Just did a hand recording of the Car & Driver 200 mph run and the ZR1’s 60-130 mph time was about 4.5 seconds. A 1478 hp Bugatti Chiron is about 4 seconds. For comparison a Model S Plaid is 4.8 seconds. No EV or hybrid required.

In that situation, I don’t think I’d make it out of New Mexico before they took me to jail lol.

This proves that GM can deliver if/when they want to. Apparently, however, this is strictly limited to the Corvette team these days.

That is insane! I never thought I would see a 1000HP factory corvette. I remember back when I first really started paying attention to cars the top of line corvette had 385HP. Now 20 years later the top of the line vette has over 1,000 HP. that is insanity!

Absolutely Insane. Can't wait for GM to release the ring video.

This was locked into the product portfolio while I was still at GM. I retired in March 2017. The decision to go all EV was announced in 2019. Theoretically, they could have cancelled it with the shift in strategy but there was never really any chance of that happening. Thankfully.

I still remember the Motor Trend cover announcing that the L82 Corvette would be over 200 hp!.

I took a friend's (an older friend with money lol) C8 Z06 last week on a 15 mile loop that included some nice turns as well as some straights where I could open it up somewhat.

That car still has me giddy. It was awesome.

I can't imagine this car. Holy crap.

Ignoring the ZR1 is going to be way outside my price range even at MSRP....

As much as I want the ZR1, the power is going to be completely unusable on the street. The car is awesome, I want one in my garage, etc. But I can't use the 670 HP in my Z06 on the street. I floor it for 1 second and hear it go to 8600 RPM once and I immediately have to let off to make sure I don't go to jail. The Z06 over SR justification was the LT6 with its sound and experience even if SR was already more car for my needs on the street. I can't use the same justification for ZR1 because the sound and experience is already very similar in the Z06. It's turned up to 11 in the ZR1, but it's not going to be much different vs Z06 in what I was after.

GM really is capable of some awesome stuff, if only they bothered to try that hard with all their products.
