Those pics are all over the internet right now so it's quite easy to google if you want to know if you're right or not.

It is a Ferrari. Which is why I don’t think it will sell well. I don’t think Ferrari expects or wants it to sell more than a handful.

I’m starting to see a lot of Lyriqs and agree on the blue color. Of course, I expect that I would see a lot of them given where I live and some of the circles I tend to hang around in.

Speaking of Cadillac EVs and EVs that will only sell a handful…Saw this one a few weeks ago. We were walking around downtown after grabbing a takeout from Mom’s Spaghetti.

Not my cup o’ tea, even if I could afford one. If I could afford one I’d buy a ZR1 and a Lyriq and keep it moving.

These expensive and only a "handful expected to sell" EVs are a reason I have no sympathy for automakers worried about inexpensive and low cost Chinese EVs "flooding" the country. The US won't make them affordable to the consumer, continue to build boutique uber expensive models, then cry foul when China has products that can sell and are affordable.
Why should we "protect" this upside down strategy of the automakers who constantly claim "just wait, we'll build something affordable eventually" when it never will happen?

Bring on the cheap Chinese EVs.

Let the domestic automakers claim of past low-cost models not selling be put to the test. Enough of these nonsense high priced EV models.

China knows what will sell. The US has no clue or reason to compete.

Thing is, as was already talked about a few pages back, cheap, Chinese EVs are only cheap in China. The $15k-$25k EVs that everyone sees in China cost $40k, $50k, even $70k in Europe and Mexico. If they allow China to bring their EV's to the US market, they will not be cheap and will be priced around the same if not more than US made EV's.

I think Cadillac is making the same mistake here that they made with the ELR. Came out the gate pricing the ELR at $80k because that’s what Tesla was getting for Model S and Model S had backlogs at the time. Never mind that ELR was basically a pimped out Volt and Volt was selling pretty well at $40k. And that comparing $80k to $80k, the Model S was simply a better car. Everybody I know who ever owned an ELR bought it at a ridiculous mark down.

At least this time there is nothing in the GM lineup to compare the Celestiq to, but there is still a very, very short list of people just searching for a hand assembled exclusive EV. Cadillac expects to build about 500 a year. The Ferrari will probably see similar numbers, both in price and volume.

Glad you said that. People tend not to believe me when I say it.

I guess we don't need that 125% or whavever import tariff on them, then?

I think it’s a 102% tariff and the 2% is a bureaucratic artifact. I don’t agree with the tariff, at least not at that level, but I do understand the reasoning behind it. Would be glad to explain it if anyone was actually interested in understanding it, but not interested in tossing around a political football.

What part of a tariff do you think wouldn't get political?

That's fair.

Shoot, as you've found here, EVs as a general topic can get political as well. Have you heard anything about the Blazer EV SS btw? I'm no longer a potential buyer but still interested in how it'll turn out. I noticed a long row of Blazer and Equinox EVs lined up out front of my local Chevy dealership. They also have 6 Silverado EVs that are starting to get significant discounts on the hood. I can't imagine spending 80 grand on a Work Truck, I guess i'm not the only one.

Case in point… BYD just released the new Song Pro. It’s a PHEV station wagon (yup, a real station wagon). Price in China? $17,200. Price in Mexico? $30,200. Mexico does not charge tariffs on PHEV or EV imports, so that’s all price. China subsidizes low prices in the home market by taking larger profits in export markets. Not a bad strategy.
