One wonders, however, how much the car would've gained with active aero on the straightaways, especially the 1.5-mile back straight where the ZL1 1LE was only able to climb to 172 mph. The ZL1 reached 180 mph in the same spot, but the 1LE is a bit lighter, so there's that. A sub-7 minute run might have been possible with active aero.
Not that I really care but I remember reading this article a while back. Not the same track but a direct comparison.

Very interesting, thank you. They say the ZL1 and the 1LE attained practically the same speeds in the front straight, but it's "only" 155 mph, the extra drag from the aero bits probably kicks in much harder beyond that.

This diagram in the article is very telling

Do I care what model is faster. I am just a regular guy who loves Camaros.
I love the look of the 1LE and I have gotten old enough that a convertible satisfies me. So I am in process of doing a 1LE front end conversion on my Convertible (no rear wing) hopefully make it look like the picture
I am also in process of getting a Roll Bar from RPM.
Now, will I track the car. Probably not.
I do live in a area were the twisty are all around me so its like being on a track.
So before anyone starts to tell me how lame I am

It really is for my liking not yours.

You should do what makes you happy, personally I absolutely love the front end. It’s my favorite part of the car, especially the canards. Too each his own. Build your 1le vert and enjoy it, that’s what hot rodding is all about!

I'm actually more curious to see what a standard ZL1 would have run on the same wheels and tires as the 1LE. I believe that's 90% of where the difference is made between these two vehicles. Ask any racer and they will tell you that tires make the most difference.

I agree tires are a big part of it but obviously all the differences play a role. They are 2 different cars made for different purposes. For me it’s the aesthetic differences, I prefer the look of the 1LE, same reason I have a Z06 instead of a standard Vette. I hate to admit it but it’s mostly for the looks, I also enjoy having one that doesn’t look like most of the ones I see driving around.

I understand. The world would be a boring place if we all drove the same thing.

So, in contrast to the title here, the 1LE is faster than the ZL1

The 1LE is a ZL1, it's a track package add-on.

Faster is typically used when talking top speed, quicker is typically used when talking from point A to point B. But they do get used interchangeably a lot.

COPO quickest down the qtr. built for extremists
ZLE quickest around a road course built for extremists
ZL1 best all around performance Camaro.

Find your purpose in life, make a choice and move forward.

Exacty my sentiment. Driving an E92 M3 allowed me to enjoy the vehicle in a variety of settings. Jack of all trades, master of none, so to say. That's why I went with the ZL1. Simply stated, these cars provide the most advantage for the money spent.

The COPO isn't even a ZL1 nor is the YENKO. only the Exorcist is.
