Not trying to dig up a topic that's been beat like a dead horse... But, can't understand the pin heads at GM... Why no more Camaro make ZERO sense! Maybe to sell more Vetts?

Honestly, I think there was too much overlap between the product lines and with the C8 moving to a mid engine platform with new engines, I'm not sure GM wanted to spend the money right now to redesign the Camaro. I think they'll milk the C8 for a few more years and possibly re-introduce the Camaro again later. Maybe it will be mid engine too.

They did the same thing with the Gen 4 and the Gen 5 and now the Gen 6. It likely has to do with the Electric car and fuel/emissions requirements from the Government and they aren't sure it will make money until they can figure out which way to go. Government is demanding electric, but consumers largely don't want electric. I certainly wouldn't buy an electric Camaro. Now if it was a hybrid I like the eRay........

It's very true that the fuel economy and emission levels required by the EPA are no longer attainable, probably by design. And let's be honest, the Camaro has long been the red headed stepchild that was commanded to leave the "house" first when any s**t hit the fan.

Car companies have a shared mpg average they're now required to meet. That's why dodge had to axe their entire performance line up because they had nothing to offset the twins while Ford was able to keep the mustang alive. Chevy has enough credit for one performance vehicle but not two.

I believe the following comment is within the Terms and Conditions of being on this site as it is politics related to the auto industry.
This is what I "heard." I did a google search to verify before posting and got this. "New vehicles sold in the United States will have to travel an average of at least 40 miles per gallon of gasoline in 2026, up from about 28 mpg, under new federal rules unveiled Friday." So I would expect this is in all manufacturers strategic plans. |

Since Ford has managed to keep the Mustang and now Stellantis is keeping gas powered engines in their muscle cars, the reason GM killed the Camaro is a little uncertain, and maybe a bit premature. |

I was reading one reason they stopped the Camaro was because of sales.
The Mustang sold 3 times the cars Camaro did. i contribute the sale flaw from when they stopped production on the Camaro the first time. During that time when they stopped producing the Camaro they lost a generation of potential Camaro enthusiast. |

https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases...year-2024-2026 Looked into it, it almost certainly has to do with the CAFE standards. The previous increases were 1.5% a year, but due to legislation being it was increased to 8% a year to comply with new gov decree. Those rules kicked in for MY2024 cars, coincidentally the same year Camaro and the Dodges had to go. Camaro might not have been a seller but the Challenger and Charger were printing money for stellantis with very little effort. They would have let that continue as long as they could have, I'm sure. With regards to the gas version Dodge is making they also offer an EV model and the gas powered version they cobbled together after follows the trend of high boost and low cylinder count so they can eke a few more mpgs out of it during testing. I really doubt it's going to have the same "it" factor as the V8 models they had prior, but Dodge really doesn't have any other option so they're betting it all on people buying it for the name. Ford only has one sports car and they already axed all their other cars a few years back. Chevy could only keep one, and the Vette made the most sense. |

They anticipated this years ago. Look at what's happening to the Mustang GT. They're sitting on the lots and having deep discounts on MSRP now. |
