Very interesting, I was wondering what info they were collecting. Thanks for sharing!

I got mine as well, but was suspicious about the wording. The suppression confirmation letter said my request only applied to public facing records data, so I went back to their website and found the California specific opt-out procedure regarding the sale and sharing of my data with third parties and I've submitted that too:

This is a very interesting topic. How would I proceed these actions, if I live in the state of Texas?

I yanked out that little On-Star spy a couple of days ago and just ordered my Lexis-Nexis un-lock information letter today too.

The instructions posted earlier in this thread were really good. It took me about an hour total, because you have to sit upside down in the passenger seat, with your head in the footwell, to get it done.

And, yes, the Bluetooth and compass still work fine. Well worth it.

I’m just wondering if all the other car companies do the same thing. I’m sure they got their own version of Onstar.

After thinking about this , I remember years ago everybody thought they were being spied on. I thought they were nuts. I guess all the conspiracy theorists were right. Go Figure.

The time between conspiracy theory and confirmed fact is down to about 24 hours these days.

Update

Just to update everyone, Since I disputed some other non-related data in the NexisLexis report, I was entitled to a review and findings, which eliminated the data in question (addresses I never lived at and such) and also entitled to view an updated report from them. To my surprise the car is still sending them data even though I went in on my desktop and turned it off back on 1/11/24. I haven't driven the car much (because of this) but it reported on 2/5/24. When I do drive it I'm aware that it could be sending data, so I drive it gently and it's still not good enough to earn my any digital trophies or badges

Not sure where to go with this, the dealer won't do anything. OnStar rep told them to tell me to tell my insurance company not to use telematics. So it's there but just pretend you don't see it?

First photo is what I saw when I created a MyChevrolet account on 1/11/24. I turned it off and the bottom photo is what I found when I checked again today, 2/16/24. Third photo is from my report showing data that was transmitted on 2/5/24, after it was turned off...

Follow the thread on this board that shows you how to remove the onstar antenna altogether. Hardware removal beats some corporate entity “promising just the tip” lol…

Yes, I see that it's possible to do that, but should it be necessary? It would be nice if I didn't have to remove the antenna in case myself or a future owner wanted the functionality of the other features. My other 6th gens are modded every which way but I kind of wanted to leave this car stock and unmolested. There probably won't be too many of those someday.

I currently have 6 GM vehicles in my household that are OnStar equipped and have owned many others in the past, so I have to ask why is this the only one on the report and why can't I stop it?

If you read that thread, you’ll see that it’s fully reversible. You can put that radio antenna back in down the road if/when you decide to sell the car. And just because you can’t see the other 5 cars of yours on a report…do you really trust them?!? I sure as hell don’t.

The app that sends data about your driving is actually called On Star Smart Driver. I don't think it is The On Star Insurance App.

If you have the Chevrolet App on your phone, open the app, click on your initials in the top right of the screen, click settings, select "on star smart driver" and make sure it is not enabled.

When I bought my 2023 ZL1, I made sure this option was not enabled at the dealership, which it was not. I think it defaults to OFF unless someone enables it or you purchase your vehicle insurance through Onstar. (Onstar Insurance)

Anyhow, my insurance company doesn't get any of my data.

I turned off Smart Driver after about a month when I first bought the car in 2018, and just requested my full consumer report from LexisNexis a few weeks ago. The report had nothing about the Camaro beyond credit and ownership info, so there may not be a need to disassemble the OnStar radio if you want to keep driving info to yourself, just turn Smart Driver off and maybe give OnStar a call to verify afterwards.
