Does it do it in neutral or when clutched while stopped or only while moving?

Jammed inside the cylinder. Started burning up the starter so what was our solution?

WD 40 in the cylinder. Ran just fine.. turns out the piston was jammed a few mm's to the side and caused it to rub hard. If we had oiled the rings (like we were supposed to) we wouldn't have had that problem..

But I'd venture a guess to say that since it's a lawnmower engine, starter fluid in the carb. Or just try to prime it before you start it again.

Pic is of our engine. Cylinder right over my right arm is the one we WD-40'd into working.
I remember putting wd 40 in my scooter bearings, it was better for about one day

are airplane engines like Car engines?

In many cases they're the same from what I understand.

I've heard of people putting an LS engine in a plane, for example...

If it happens in neutral with your foot off the clutch, its probably the trans casing rattling. Probably nothing to worry about - those are generally low tolerance, especially in high performance applications like this.

Not quite. Car engines are designed for being revved and operated at a multitude of RPM ranges. Aircraft engines are usually set at a certain RPM and you just let it go. You have power settings, High, Cruise, Climb, Idle. These have a corresponding RPM depending on the aircraft using the engine.

Our O-200 for example, had a redline of 3200RPM. But was putting out 85-100hp. Typical max power is had around 2800RPM on those engines. Idle was 650RPM. Also, all aircraft recip engines have 2 spark plugs per cylinder, 2 magnetos to fire the plugs (one mag per set of plugs). Batteries are not used to maintain spark.

And no EFI. Well, except for this past February when Lycoming came out with an EFI IO-320 engine. Typically, your most advanced fuel injected engines still use MFI.

LS/car engines aren't the best suited for aircraft, and are usually used by home builders in lieu of an actual aircraft engine.

I LOVE GM vehicles, and particularly Chevy's, but would buy any GM vehicle if I had the $$...Hopefully, one day, soon enough, a 5th Gen CAMARO! Dave_O
