Do it, or don't? It's dramatic - humor me.

This is probably like asking people in a bar watching a good football game if I should have another drink...lol...but here goes.

I'm 41 and clearly remember the day, not long after graduating high school, when 4th generation Camaro production ended. I was working at a Chevy dealership over the summer. Going, going, gone... There was no way I could ever afford one. There was a 2002 Z28 that hung around the lot for a while, last new one I ever saw, 6-speed, t-tops, and not a single other option. One day, it sold. I think I actually cried. LOL.

I've owned what feels like a billion Camaros over the years. I'm "old" now and new cars all kind of feel the same. I have a 93 Z28 and a 2000 SS in my shop, both low mile cars I keep around for fun, those were the cars of my youth.

Well, here comes that feeling again. The last of the last are here, this is it. Should I go in for ONE MORE Camaro? I doubt we'll ever see the Camaro as a rear-drive, V8 coupe again, as the nameplate is passed on to the younger generation who will...do what they will do with it. I think an electric 4-door Camaro SUV blob will be cool, but that's not what excited me all these years.

It's a bad time for me to buy. I can do it, I have the space, I just really don't need it -- at all. Not with two other hobby cars, and a brand new Jeep - that's been my jam as an adult - it's kind of gluttonous, don't you think? For a long time I thought I was done with new Camaros and would not be getting a 6th gen. Until...gulp...this is the last chance. Modern Camaros have a lot of fun to offer, and if I wait, they'll be gone.

There's a 1SS locally, manual trans. That's really all I want, manual for the sake of it (also going the way of dinosaurs). I think I could shake it out of a tree for MSRP or slightly under.

I don't need it. I don't need it. (bangs head on desk). That money could go to retirement. Or a billion other adult-y priorities. I have a bunch of cash that I just tied up in CD's, so I'd probably end up taking out a loan and paying it down over 2 years or so.

When I get cancer or am (hopefully) recovering after a heart attack between now and 60, I'll probably regret not buying it.

Or should I call the dealer and go down the rabbit hole?

You never see a hearse being followed by an armored car.

Can't take it with you. Go for it. You can always sell and recoup most/some of your $.

It sounds like you're sitting comfortably enough financially, I say do it! Saving for retirement is great but there is nothing wrong with enjoying the life you have in front of you right now! I'm 39 and have had multiple 4th gens, up until recently when the 94 came back into my life I was casually looking for a deal on a manual 6th gen. Do I need it, hell no. Would it be a lot of fun? Hell yes!

I'd get one, while you still can. Soon you will only be able to buy a new soulless, boring, appliance like battery powered POS.

Probably not me either.

But OP I'd say go for it. If you want an ICE Camaro with a manual transmission now is the time to get one.

You’re right you don’t need it. But you know what if you really want it, then just do it! I definitely didn’t need the camaro, definitely should have gotten a pickup or more family oriented car, but shit every time I go in the garage and look at it or whenever I get behind that wheel I smile ear to ear!

Evergreen6, you knew full well what the sentiment here would be

I also say go for it, one last time. The 6th gen is genuinely different, it's a brand new chassis and a very well designed powertrain compared to older gens, the experience will be much better.

If you won't miss comfort features or electronic tchotchkes, take that 1SS, but to be honest, I wouldn't want anything less than a 2SS. It is well behind the curve in terms of annoying BS features we all hate (no physical controls, the car steering and braking for you automatically etc.), it has none of that, but instead has very useful "driver helper" features such as blind spot monitoring, rear object and cross traffic detection, HUD, rear camera mirror, seat and side mirror memory plus nice cushy seats, heated and ventilated, even some multicolor mood lighting for the missus and many more.

I'm a few years from retirement, and I bought my first Camaro. Here's some advice - you only get one turn on this ride we call life. If you want it and can afford it, don't hesitate. I have a buddy who rides motorcycles and makes over $200K/yr. He wanted a certain BMW bike and refused to pull the trigger. Now he can't get the one he wanted.

Well I'll be 70 in a few months and retired years ago. When I heard it was was going to be the end of Camaro as we know it (V8), those Holden GTO's from 04-06 came to mind, that I passed up on. Not this time. When I saw the VOM Camaro, I jumped on it and ordered one to my liking and sold my MB Coupe E350. I've only gotten one speed camera ticket thus far, but I've had a ball with this car. I just can't drive it everywhere it's an attention getter. If and when I want to sell it, I won't have one regret and you most likely won't either.
