That's only the US... Doesn't everyone need to be on the same page in order to make this whole green earth work? (Or at least most everyone)

"Aiming for"... but yet it's presented as fact as if every Goal is hit... Just like we are witnessing right before our very eyes all the EV goals getting hit... Oh wait... No, they are all pulling back on those "goals"

The point is if they are aiming for it they are taking action. The action is adding capacity via renewable technology which means increases in electrical generation are not fossil fuel as was stated. That’s why I say the statement is inaccurate. Will they hit their targets? Hell if I know. But they are at least working in that direction by adding non-fossil fuel power generation.

It wasn't my statement that you quoted and posted that article on.

If I was cynical, I'd say the point is to increase electrical demand through EV production while simultaneously replacing affordable reliable sources of energy (coal/nuclear/hydro) with expensive inconsistent sources (wind/solar). What could go wrong?

"A report from the International Energy Agency (IEA), published last week, claims that the world will reach peak demand for oil, coal and gas by 2030. This has been seized on by the likes of the World Economic Forum as proof that we’re about to enter a brave, green future, free of evil fossil fuels."

"But other developments this month suggest otherwise. At the same time as the IEA and the WEF have been heralding an imminent end to fossil fuels, Germany has been firing up an extra coal facility, energy giants Exxon Mobil and Chevron are doubling down on their fossil-fuel businesses and the wind-power industry has been begging governments for more subsidies and bailouts."

Lost in all the hooplah about an all-electric future are these big boys - and all the oil giants.

Let's just keep in mind that one of them had the largest environmental catastrophe in history, was sued to the moon and back by every developed country (and probably even a few undeveloped countries no one has ever heard of) due to a drunken ship captain, and the financial hit from all of it including the bad PR and reputation, it was all basically the equivalent to you and I losing the change in our couch cushions.

Does anyone seriously, no I mean SERIOUSLY, think that they're going to go out quietly and just let electric cars take over?

The oil giants are split. ExxonMobil and Chevron are staying away from all things EV.

BP and Shell are playing both sides of the fence and investing significantly in EV charging. In fact, the largest EV charging facility in the world is owned and operated by Shell. BP announced just this week that they are investing $100M to add charging stations to company owned stations. They just built a new gas station a few miles from where I live this past spring. The EV charge points were up and running before the fuel pumps.

Here’s what “pulling back from EV” looks like in GM world…

The problem is that those are just "plans". Well Chevy had an initial EV plan. How did that work out?? Now they have a new "Plan"... How do you know that, that plan will work? So if that doesn't work out, and they go to plan C, D, E?

You need consumers to buy your products or you're just going to have to keep "pulling back". That's the biggest problem I see here in the US right now. People "for the post part" don't want EVs. (For whatever reason... Many of them)

We can all sit and go back and forth about this forever... Post links to sites that support whatever it is you currently believe. Bottom line still is, that if you can't find buyers, what is your plan worth? Even that article you posted, read the comments at the end of it.

I think you're a bit gullible or naive.

Black gold is where those companies bread is buttered. They can put all the charge ports they want in their gas stations for show. But their bottom line is and will always be petrol.

You know, Telsa himself had plans. He had plans to transmit high voltage wirelessly. They say he hid them and destroyed them before he died.

If his plans were actually doable someone would have come up with them in the last 100 years.

I would be gullible or naive if I said I thought BP and Shell were changing their business focus. I did not say or believe that. What I did say and believe is that BP and Shell have enough of a vision to realize the EVs are real and will capture a significant portion of the automotive market. So they are hedging their bets enough to capitalize on it, rather than pretend it doesn’t / won’t exist. Huge difference in those two perspectives.
