Well you certainly made me go look, but no extra devices on mine. The Atlanta dealers were crazy with add-ons, from 3k to 5k. The NC dealer I found normally adds about $700, but since the car was in transit, they said they could just skip the add-ons. Good on them (Sir Walter, in of course Raleigh, NC).
Now where is that OnStar fuse in case they annoy me enough to disable it. Rusty |

was your build a special order?
if you bought it off the lot I could understand the device. |

On one level I can kind of understand the add-ons. Vehicle inventory at dealerships dried up starting about 2 years ago. They can't sell vehicles over MSRP without add-ons and the margins for new vehicle sales aren't enough to sustain operational costs when they aren't selling at a high volume. The dealerships don't make much money off someone like me who doesn't finance or voluntarily purchase other goods and services. That's not to say I like the practice. One of the reasons why I've been using the same dealer for over 20 years is because they didn't tack on add-ons like many dealers do for almost all of that time. Some dealers still don't and good on them, but I don't think there's many left. |

I would report them to the authorities. I believe it is illegal in most states to install a tracking device.

Just checked mine and nothing plugged into my OBD port. Your dealer is an asshole and I wouldn't buy anything from that dealer again. It should have been disclosed as someone else said. What a joke they are.

Are you sure it wasn’t disclosed somewhere in the paperwork? Most people only take a cursory look before signing those documents, so it’s possible it was missed

Quick search seems to indicate that it is illegal for someone who does NOT own the vehicle to install such a device for any reason in TN and TX, other states seem to vary based on ownership... buy here/pay here places usually do this sort of thing but have to notify you ahead of time. Sounds like you should at least talk to a lawyer about it.

Stingray Chevrolet in Plant City Florida installs trackers on vehicles at their dealership. They did not make any mention of installing this device on my car. I’m very disappointed, I had always thought they were a cut above the standard stealership but I guess they are all the same.

If you bought a vehicle that they no longer possess any portion of (it's paid off), I'd be seriously upset if they were tracking my driving habits or whereabouts. Sure, if you've got a phone you can't live without with you, then you better not be misbehaving. But I've gone years without a cell phone in the car and done just fine. I'm not a conspiracy theorist in the least but where there is $ involved you can bet it's a real thing. It's always all about the money! |

Don't worry- LOL, I'm not dwelling on this, but I hit this old thread on the 1st search I ran and hadn't looked at it... https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...+Onstar&page=6
And yes I checked my OBD too, just to be sure. I'd spit fire if someone had access to where I was and how quick I got there! Just on general principal. |
