Catless zl1 worth it ??

Tuning my ZL1 and going flex fuel. Tuner doesn’t recommend going catless or getting headers for my set up. But I thought just going catless you’d gain hp?

Mine has headers, straight pipes, crimp delete, Kooks axle back with small mufflers, and no cats. It's loud, not a DD, and would not pass an emissions test

If the car is mostly stock you’ll gain very little removing the cats. If you’re shooting for big power, then the gain goes up at that point. But even then, the Gen2 GESI cats cat support and survive very high HP.

I would say unless you're pushing 750rwhp or more, going catless is pointless.

But it's up to you. If you live in a State where you don't need to do smog testing then go catless.

For me personally the few hp gained going catless isn’t worth stinking like exhaust after a drive. So I vote no to going catless.

As stated above, the value proposition is very weak unless insane power is wanted.

IMO this is where one can decide not to be a dick and pollute for no good reason, whether or not inspections are a thing (the county I live in does not do any inspection, but I still have cats and don't intend to remove them). Live and let live.

CSP headers with GESI Gen 2 CATs. I’m putting down 650rwhp now, no issues and plan to bump that up to 850rwhp at some point and think these CATs will handle it. Tames the exhaust a little along with not smelling like crap. I’d recommend this route!

Its more complex than that. The ECU protects the cats and will dump fuel to cool them and reduce timming at certain temps. If you only do hero pulls here and there. Keep them. If you put your car through its paces, its beneficial. HP Tuners should allow you to pass inspection if they dont do visual/sniffer test.

Sounds like you need a better tuner. Speak with Vengeance Racing.

Cats with delete pipes best of both worlds. Going back and forth several times now I can say it is definitely louder and smells more with cats off. Running 50% or more ethanol there isn’t a noticeable smell. With cats on definitely quieter and no smell on 91 octane pump fuel.

To the worried one about the environment

My zl1 is catless with 870whp on e85. When Hollywood stops flying around in Lear jets and Al Gore quits driving in a 7 suburban line of trucks. So he can tell me to drive a stupid ev around. I’ll keep my car catless and make killer power!
