Slotted brake rotors
I recently acquired a 2013 Zl1 and decided to do a little brake upgrade. Besides pads and hoses I got the Raybestos s groove rotors from rock auto. Well once I started installing the fronts I realized they were a 1/2 inch too small. Then once I did some more digging it appears that 90% of the rotors out there are 14in diameter and not 14.5 like the brembo rotors are. I searched rockauto, Summit and other websites and they all seem to think our cars use 14in rotors.
Does anyone know where I can get a entire set of slotted rotors that won't break the bank and be the proper size? |

You literally have race brakes on the car from GM, you downgraded the brakes.
Slotted rotors serve no purpose other than to prematurely crack. The brake pads from GM are made by a company called Ferodo, they are very similar to the Ferodo DS2500 which is an amazing street, autocross and playing in the mountains pad.

And, my brake pads said Brembo on them when I replaced them on my 1LE and I was looking at getting Brembo pads when I was going to upgrade to the ZL1 Caliper. Is that the same Ferodo pads you are referring to? Also, to not get too off subject, I don't believe he was asking for race brakes. Just slotted rotors. Which I do not know of anyone making them in your size without spending a lot on it. |

Stock ZL1 pads are labeled Brembo but also have Ferodo 1000 on them. Some guys even run Ferodo 2500s at the track.
It's hard to beat the stock rotors which GM gets from Brembo. You can get them on RockAuto PN BREMBO 09A66513 & BREMBO 09A66523 for about $320ea. I don't think you will find a better rotor for less. Any SS rear pad will work for the rears, but you do want something that works well with what you have up front, i.e. similar heat range, bite, etc. I have been told by track guys that slotted rotors won't warp, but never heard of them causing crack. Drilled rotor on the other hand will crack if you get them hot and if you track it they will get hot.

Any riser or sharp edge you give will give a place for higher heat=crack. Also the rotor is thinner where the slot is which will heat cycle differently than the thicker part of the rotor. Race cars use a "J hook" rotor to prevent and slow cracks. There is a damn good reason 99% of cars at a track day use blank rotors, no slots or holes. BTW, brake rotors don't warp. When you exceed the max working temp of the brake pads on the car they melt onto the rotor face causing pulsation. https://www.facebook.com/RaybestosBr...4044739282278/
