I don't see why this has again caused people to raise pitchforks against FarmerFran. Dude's just sharing a video, and FCA also has engines outside of HEMI and Pentastar 3.6, like the Multiair engines which have DI.

I wouldn't call him an idiot, some DI engines definitely have issues, and it's interesting to see at least some theories behind them. Whether or not if they apply to real life is another matter, of course. His content is generally good.

Again, I think the lesson here is to change oil on time and use the right oil required for your car, rather than "DI bad".

I think a lot of early 10th Gen Honda Civic and the newer CR-V owners(especially in China) with the 1.5T engine would like to have a word with you on the bolded statement, so the video isn't as clickbaity as you make it sound.

It could be an actual problem if...

- You don't change your oil properly like I mentioned above.

- You do very repeated short trips in cold weather.

- You suck at driving a stick shift 2.0T or ZL1 and floor it when in a high gear, in which case, learn to drive a stick shift properly or drive an auto.

Now that said, these are issues that can happen to any engines, not just DI engines.

Also, any big channels where the uploader is doing it for a living will eventually get sponsorship at some point. It doesn't necessarily make the channel less or more valid IMO. If the sponsorship means some insider look and cool footage then I am all for it, I can just filter out the advertising plug myself. He isn't even saying "go buy Mobil1" in his videos.

153,500 on my '13 LFX, AMSOIL oil changes every 10K and CRC Intake/Turbo Cleaner once a year (ALL of my driving is highway which really doesn't affect and engine - wear wise) and like you, so far so good. (BTW, I bought the car with 24K on it in 2015, so all those other miles are with AMSOIL and 10K oil changes.

I would not fear them. They are not fail prone as some may suggest; In fact, I find the 2.0L Turbo DI in my Malibu to be very reliable. One should note that the DI's are sensitive when it comes to maintenance and care. I've observed that the majority of breakdown cases with the DI 4 cylinders resulted from owners deviating from the recommended care and/or poor maintenance of the powertrain. I've heard of a few of the turbo 4 cylinders going well beyond 100,000 miles; I've also heard quite a few breakdown cases of piston cracking with these engines, again many stemming from not following maintenance procedures.
