Saw a black Challenger today. Marked up 15k. I always like messing with car salesmen just to see how much they know about what they're selling. According to the guy I talked to, the Challenger weighs 3200 lbs, has a 0-60 that rivals the current Corvette, and gets decent mileage.

Wow, Dodge did a great job at making the Challenger weigh less than the Viper, or is that down to 2500 lbs now? Also, did you get hp numbers from him? I'm sure its right around 600 or so.

Ya know what kinda sucks for GM though. Dealers that mark up the prices like crazy. I bet because of some dealer mark up, they dont sell as many cars as they could.

I understand that dealers need to make money as well, but if GM doesnt start making money, it's not gonna be pretty.....

That goes for the other two

Not trying to be pissy here, but, I made this point awhile back about the dealers I had approached and how I was going to put off buying one and was accused by "someone" of not being an enthusiest. Glad others are starting to see what I was talking about. It is a fact this is going to happen and it is going to impact their sales. The sticky that has been started about dealers that will and will not sell at MSRP is a big help. Surely we'll all be able to find one close enough to home....... By the way, I might not be the same level of enthusiest as some, but, I am enthusiastic about gettin my first camaro. Just ask my family that watches me sit on this forum every night!!!!

So while my six second estimate is probably three-or-so tenths high, the fact remains that my $25k 320-hp Mustang GT has the same 0-60 time as the $40k 425-hp Challenger SRT-8, and gets about 7mpg better to boot. That's a no-brainer anyway you slice it.

Again, I love the styling of the Challenger, I really do. I have no doubt that one in black will look absolutely bad-ass. However, I'm not as concerned with interior, otherwise I'd buy a C-series or something. I want the most fun car I can get for the cheapest price, and right now the Mustang beats the Challenger hands-down.

...but I'm looking forward to the Camaro. Let's hope they make it tough for the Mustang and price it aggressively.

The R/T hemi in the challenger is the "upgraded for '09" hemi. I think they just re-worked some mechanicals to it, such as adding VVT, higher compression ratio; higher-flowing heads, etc. Any vehicle that uses the 5.7 gets the upgraded version, i.e.:Ram, Challenger, Charger, etc.

I'm worried about the pricing of the Camaro SS...This will be my first major purchase ever and I want to make Camaro it. I'm on a tour in Iraq and hope to come back and purchase one as a present to myself..If the SS is more than $32,000 moderately eqippied, I'm going to have to look for other cars... sad story

I don't think the Camaro SS will be 40K. The max loaded RS SS model will prob top out at 35K. They're not stupid enough to price it that high. The Camaro was always an affordable sports car (even compared to the firebird). I would expect since the 400HP GTO was 32-33K (loaded) the Camaro loaded will be around the same. Starting price prob 28-30K. I'm going to wait til the mid model yr improvements or go used. I was thisclose to buying a GTO in 07 and now they are 20-22K for ones with 3-4K. I'll either wait til the rush dies down to ensure a good price or pick one up used for what I want. I'd like the V8 but 30K+ isn't going to work. It's too bad pricing won't be out til December. I wish they'd release it around Sept.

I got to look at another Challenger up close today. Those things are beautifully styled, but man they're HUGE.
