By the way, why would his insurance go up if it wasn't his fault. It wouldn't.
Hit and run on his way home from the dealership someone hit him.At his age his insurance will go up a good number as he will file the claim under his insurance. If he is paying for it on his own I am sure it's pretty high.

$1600 seems high for the repairs it looked like just the front fender needed to be replaced he posted that cost $150 add paint and labor no more than $700-$800 Max if you ask me.

My partners daughter got drilled two weeks after she started driving and it wasn't her fault his insurance never went up. I know, if I bought my daughter a $36000 car and It got hit and It wasn't her fault I would fix it not her. But, I would try to run it through insurance first.

Too many things left out of the story that don't add up.

Have you really thought this thru. $1,500 claim. Is surchargable for a 3 year period by insurance company. So $1,500/36 months = $41.67/month. Do you expect your rates to increase by this much? Consider also part of this $1,500 is partially your responsibility as a deductible. Honestly if you file a claim and less than $1,500 is actually paid out by the insurance company typically doesn't even result in a surcharge at all. It simply goes into a database of how frequent (say in 5 years) you have had claims. This affects your future eligibility only. How accurate is your damage assesment?

What jobs? etc.
I know things have changed a lot since I was 16, but I would do odd jobs for money all the time, this included just about anything anyone would pay for. Mow Lawns, Paint Fences, Clean out basements or garages, babysit, well you get the idea.

Your parents, grandparents, close relatives, etc might be willing to help you out also.

So sorry to hear about your fender and good luck on getting the money together!

Cover up? seriously.... This is MY car, im paying it off. This is my first car, right after I get it, it gets messed up. Why wouldnt I want to have it repaired as good as new fast? We went to the police and everything, they said the other car reported it. The police said that since it was such minor damage, it was a "toss up". Insurance WILL cover it. But it will bring up the rate which is already high enough for me

Well if that's the case then I'm sorry ,but you have to look at the story you tell the way a parent could see it. IF your 16 and can aford to buy a $36000 dollar car and pay for the insurance all buy your self way can't you aford to get it fixed. I know When I was sixteen I worked on a farm and at a store and there was no way I could have bought a brand new car all by myself without any help. Most banks wouldn't lend that kind of money to a sixteen year old. So, can you see why I would think that with the info that you gave?

simple

at age 16, even if your car had a huge dent, it probably is still cooler than 99% of any other car a 16 year old has.

just drive it like that and save up 150 a month for 12 months. fix the car a year from now.

you should try to take care of it and worry about fixing the dent later on. you probably need this for transportation right now. that is more important than anything cosmetic.

i sense you are embarrassed because people who don't know you, probably assume you bought the car and wrecked it already.

Not 100% true, if he is in Ohio too, Ohio does not require such info be reported, like allotof states.

And carfax is a joke, find the CBC show on it.

Canada has gone after them as its such a joke.
Dealers only advertise it as they know what a joke it is and they can sell all the welded back togehter car they want as it takes carfax years to report anything.

Where other car services take months.

Carfax is a joke. We wrecked a brand new grandprix one time It did $20,000 damage to a $27000 car and the insurance fixed it. Funny thing is their is no car fax report on it.
