The ‘57 Bel Air is probably a good example. It wasn’t the fastest, meanest car in its day. But it could be ordered with a 2bbl or 4bbl carb and even the rarer, Duntov cam and 4bbl. That bit of muscle coupled with classic styling, made it the icon it is.

Now that the HP wars have taken us to the almost insane for production street cars, we’re not the cock of the walk from a purely HP perspective. But again, we have a bona fide muscle car that sets itself apart from the other post modern, resto-muscle cars. I don’t even see a Hellcat and the ever-changing Mustang having the ability to honestly be viewed as a modern day classic.

But I might get some argument on a Ford or Mopar forum, I’m sure.

It's like I constantly remind my buddy from Montana - it's not all about HP and ETs.

I almost broke down and bought a 6th gen Camaro but only because I could get it in my favorite color; orange (very similar to Hugger Orange no less!) but decided in the end I just didn't like the looks of them as much as I do the 5th gen Camaros. Shame they didn't make this color for the 5th gen's; it would have been nirvana for me!

Was at a park today where an older gent, probably my age or so, strolled up to tell me how beautiful my car is. After a little chit chat he explained that nothing is as good as “our generation” of cars...from the 60’s.... in particular, muscle cars. A little more banter and I said “oh, btw, this is a 2010”. His eyes lit up and he said “really?, I was thinking ‘69 or so.”
Now, I don’t know what kind of knowledge this gent has on cars but, it says a lot for the classic styling a 5th gen has, plain and simple.

Yep....its the last pure looking muscle car GM will make. And that alone will make it a restorer or hot rodders first choice.

You know...that hadn't occurred to me at all until I read your post just now.
I think you are correct and I think that kind of bums me out.

Huh.

So glad I choose the 5th Gen. I've seen both stock and modded beauties and I'm sorry but this is a tremendous looking muscle car. They really did there homework from the rear QP shoulders to the intimidating different grills. Amen to the 5th Gen

amen to that unfortunately. I’m keeping mine as long as I’m able. I’d like to add another 5th Gen to the stable in a few years, hopefully one of the Z’s.

The auto industry is going on a direction that does not interest me.

I will be driving this 5th Gen Camaro for the rest of my life.

I realize this is ‘the choir’ and all but there are really strong convictions here about this car. Anyone every owned anything else and belonged to chat room / forum where there was this kind of love - and vows to never give it up, for a model?

Especially on a mostly affordable to all, production car?

I have a 4runner and they have a devoted following too. I definitely don't see this level of love on the Mustang forums, or on the Camaro6 forums for that matter. I really believe that the 5th gen is one of those special cars, and I've owned a lot of cars!
