The fact that Fiat isn't pumping money into Chrysler leads me to believe that the acquisition is just a means for getting their foot in the door. Looks like they are gonna drop all Chrysler stuff in the near future since they aren't investing in it now. I wouldn't be surprised if both the Charger and Challenger are gone in a few years.

First of all, Scotty, as much as I like you surely you read past the title of the title of the article yes?

BINGO

The difference between the Camaro and the Challenger is that the Camaro has it's own assembly line. GM has more money for that and that's just the way it is. The Challenger's production line is shared with 2 other vehicles meaning fewer are made. Add to that the plant closures, etc for 2009 and 2009 models are very rare in deed. I think only 39,000 TOTAL were made for 2009. I know they built at 1250 of my Hemi Orange 6 speed. There were only 156 B5 Blue SRT8s built. However, with all the people who buy cars now and store them thinking it's 1970 all over again, I'm not sure there'll ever be any future value, but who knows.

WHAT!? The Charger does not out perform the Challenger. It weighs a bit more to boot. To me Dodge really screwed the pooch on the Charger. It should have never been a 4 door sedan with that name.

OH, and from what I'm hearing the 2011 SRT Challenger is getting a 6.4L motor with about 550HP but we'll see.

The Charger SRT8 has hit 12.8's bone stock. It is right there with the Camaro... It's the better SRT8. And yeah it really screwed the pooch when coming to styling... They should have just been shot to even thinking of making it a 4-door.

I totally agree, four door was an insult to the charger name. Almost as much as the body styling.

They should have just called them all magnums.

Magnum or Imperial or something.

I think the CHallenger will survive, but only the R/T and the SE. That's where 90% of sales are coming from. The SRT8 is just too expensive.

Go search the stock Challenger SRT8 times in an auto car. I don't drag race so that's not something I personally keep up with.

SRT8 is way over priced for what you get FO SHO.

If they do not make any more DODGE vehicles, they could just put the CHRYSLER name on any they want to keep.( example the CHALLENGER, DODGE pickup Etc. )........Very easy to do ...........

The Challenger SRT8 has yet to break 12's, no matter what. But the quickest one I saw on Dragtimes is a 13.1 in an auto. But if they get the 6.4 upgrade in 2011, it will definitely break 12's. Maybe even put it into the mid 12's.

Well, I can't really say for certain if they're modded or not, but I know guys over on Challengertalk are getting into the 12s. There would be no reason for a Charger to be faster, it's the same engine, trans, suspension, chassis, etc. Just the 2 xtra doors and body shape are different.

Latest Consumer Reports numbers:

Quote:
Ford: 46 of 51 models (90%) have average or better then average quality.

GM: 21 of 48 models (44%) have average or better than average quality

Chrysler: 1 of 26 models (4%) has average or better than average quality.

I'm guessing that one average car from Chrysler isn't the Challenger. Anyone want to guess what that one car is?

Actually, the Challenger may be one of the few cars that ends up safe. We already know that the plan, or at least the initial plan, was to keep the LX platform and minivans around for global duty with both platform being utilized for future Alfa/Fiat offerings. However, whether the continuance of the LX/LC platform means 300/Charger/Challenger or simply 300/Charger remains to be seen. Although, the Charger could make a really neat basis for a wild, affordable, full size Alfa coupe.

Maybe they'll shut down all of Dodge and rebadge the Chally as a Cuda.

Hey, I can dream.

"product lineup that stays true to....blue collar, muscle car roots..."

fwiw, I do think the Challenger will be axed, as well. Sales numbers are horrendous, and it's uncompetitive....

BUT....the part of that article that stuck out to me was the last bit about trying to stay afloat until 2012...Cerberus bought the company and expected to turn it around and resell it in the same time-frame, in order to make a profit...they to, failed miserably. I believe it's safe to say that this is Chrysler's very last hope for survival.:(

I meant stock wise. But you are right, I have no idea why the Charger is breaking 12's stock while the Challenger isn't. Oh well chalk it up to one of the world's great mystery along with why people think Dane Cook is funny.
