wow, i walk out of the room for 5 minutes and check my email, and the thread advances by a page and some posts. you guys need a life (not saying I dont need one too )

These are the "cheap" brews.

Another example - Brandy is supposed to be aged in a wooden cask. Many companies skip this step and just color it with caramel coloring to make it look aged. Scotch is the same way - its suppose to be distilled multiple times and aged a number of years.

Scotch, being a grain liquor, just tastes "cheaper" when its "cheap." Grain liquors (beer, whiskey, vodka, etc) get SIGNIFICANTLY smoother when aged and distilled multiple times.

And 98% of the complaints I've heard of grain whiskey are that its too sharp tasting. "It burns my mouth."

well i know there are cheap brands of everything... i just had a cheap scotch ... so i would like to try a good one. not saying that it was bad but i bet it could be better.

thats why i like Ketle One its distilled six times i believe?

and i like the burn. hee.

I buy Svedka as far as vodka goes. Its distilled 5 times, and only about 15 bucks a liter (about half the cost of Kettle One).

As far as Scotch - I like Dalmore 12yr. but I haven't really had a chance to taste too many different ones.

Dalmore is at the upper end of the middle priced scotches (at least in my opinion). Its about 30 bucks for a 750mL bottle, depending on where you go.

Now, I've seen scotches that are 200 bucks for the same sized bottle.

Hmm, never had Dalmore. Cutty Sark is pretty good stuff, and you can find it anywhere.
