Zeon RS-A2 tires. Very highly regarded I guess. I was impressed with their handling and performance - until the failure of course.

I've had Coopers on a lot of cars over the years. Never had a problem until now.

Glad to hear it worked out.
Maybe the previous owner did 155mph on a scorching hot highway?

I wasn't expecting you to get anything based on you not being the tire purchaser, glad it turned out well!

That's great Cooper took care of you. They usually call that a good will adjustment. Not seeing the tire I can't say for sure but in my experience in the tire business that type of failure is usually due to a loss of air pressure & riding on. With low profile tires its hard to notice. Looks like the rim cut thru the side wall then came apart. Just my .02

The official coverage was put as "Road Hazard Warranty". It really is hard to say. I didn't hit anything in the road and I did not get a low pressure warning before hand. I can't imagine for a second that I would not have noticed I was driving on a flat tire. Not possible.

Often a manufacturer will offer to replace the product at no charge then ask the repair shop to send them the damaged unit so their QC people can investigate to determine why and how it failed so the manufacturer can use the results to better refine their manufacturing process.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cooper asked for the entire set of tire remains so the can investigate what and how the failure may have happened for their own benifit.
