You just drive around it. If you want to do a burnout, you back into it and dip the rear tires. The asshats that just plow thought it drag water all the way up to the starting line and piss off the seasoned drag racers.

Totally understand all that. I guess the way he separated the two parts had me confused. Driving straight to the lights was after the getting kicked out part. A lot of places it's very hard to drive around the water but I try and keep the front tires as dry as possible before a burn out.

Sure, I can see that. Moooost tracks have enough space around the water box to fit a normal sized car around it before you get into the walled area. Another thing that pissed off track officials AND seasoned drag racers is people doing a burnout IN the water box. Ooof. Throws water up in the fender wells just to fall right back down on a heated tire.

Exactly which is why I mentioned that part. Fender well water is a killer. Water guys can get a little crazy sometimes too. I also like to roll out of my burnouts at least a car length or 2 to clean up any front tire water.

OMG did all of that used to piss me off. Next worse thing is having your A/C on.

There is always enough room to the inside to go around. Don’t go to the outside, no one should EVER go to the outside of the water box.

If the tendies aren’t retarded, or it’s their first day on the job, simply motion you are going around the box as you approach. They will motion you to move when they want you to go around.

Good tendies will motion to you when you are at the edge of the box.

Rule of thumb for most cars is 1car length, lifting as you roll forward.

This leads to another point. Achieve eye contact with each tendie stage. Even if they look away, watch them so when they turn to you they know you are paying attention to their instructions.

I drive around the water box then back in to it and let it wet the tires and drive a few feet and burn them dry. Do not wet the front tires .
