Head gasket question
I’ve got a Texas speed sleeved 427 headed my way and I’m not sure what head gaskets to use. Have been using the ls9 on my other motor but supposedly they are only good to 4.100 bore and the 427 is a 4.175. Running an twins at about 16 psi but sadly still with ported 4 bolt heads until I recover from the TS bill. Thanks for any help fellas

I'd throw a set of Athena gaskets on it and forget it. Or on the cheaper end a cometic gasket

They recommended the cometic head gaskets but are out of them and they are not shipping because of Covid. Plus I trust sourcing info from this site. I like the idea of the Athena and plan on going that route. Thanks

Athena also make MLS gaskets too.
I'd say for extreme applications, the steel ring gasket is a good option, and as you sound like you may change heads at some point...no issue there either. But don't forget the steel ring does bite into the head face ( and on alloy blocks, I've seen it sink into the block too ) For some racers this is acceptable. For primarily a street car....not so sure it's a route I'd take yet It's a good system, I'd like to see more results on the long term usage though |
