Some of my favorite memories of chemistry, well that and making potassium nitrate paste. Good times!

Don't get me wrong, I like instruments. Just don't think they are needed in school.
um ~ it just occurred to me... 15 years old? failing classes? could there be a certain female(s) distracting him.

Hey PQ,

how many students are there per class? is it easy to get one on one with the teacher or is it lecture style? I would suggest seeing if you could find out if the teacher could 1on1 with him or if he is comfortable approaching the teacher and asking for some 1on1 instruction..

math sucks! and you really do not need it, at least for normal jobs

i didn't even have to take the SATs, I guess i took the easy way out and went to an art college haha

You may have taken the easy way out and went with art school, first feel lucky you have the talent to do so and 2nd know that you will need to work your a$$ off to put your self above the hoards of art students now days. I started with my Associates in Graphic Design and now working on my BS in Media Arts & Animation..... which is a ridiculous 180 credits

another word of wisdom, if you are going for strictly graphic design, learn as much web coding, php, html, css, java, etc. as you can....

And PQ, 14-16 was pretty rough on me as well to keep focused. I had too many hobbies and a girlfriend which ultimately took away from studying time. I did well in HS, took a few honors classes up until my junior year when I decided I was going for art, why would I need AP Chem and Calc? Take a look at what your son does after school, how much time does he devote to homework, how much to playing the guitar, how much time texting or on the phone w/ friends and girlfriend(s) <<<<--- note the plural bc we all know the ol' man wrangled a winnner Bonnie

I can help as much as possible. If you want, you can email me his homework, with his work showing how he came to the answer, then I can use that to determine exactly what part he is messing up on.

I was good at math and all sciences, but I am terrible at explaining things to people who dont think like me, so I probably couldnt help much as a tutor.

PQ and those offering to help, you keep mentioning how it would be difficult to help him over the internet. I CAN help there. Skype/Yahoo Messenger/AOL Messenger/ MSN Messenger, and probably a dozen programs I don't know would enable this communication via microphone and webcam. Verbally and visually. I would look into that.

PQ, you may have mentioned it and I missed it but, Is your son testing well but not doing the other classwork? or is he just doing poorly because he doesnt understand the material?
If hes not understaning, you seem to have willing tutors who would do better than I. If he seems to just not have the proper motivation I would be willing to talk to him. I was an underachiever in high-school and it has definately hurt me afterword. My wife was an over-achiever and she can attest to how much it helped after school. My wife makes $85-90k/yr, I make $36k...
We're both 21, so maybe he would relate better than he does to what his parents say.

I'll damn sure have him read this post. I'm much the same way as far as that goes. After this business we own, there is nothing to fall back on but truck driving.

No, PQ, YOU ARE AWESOME!!!...you care enough about your son to go public on this forum with your issues with your son, not knowing what type of advice you may or may not get...
There are not always parents out there that care enough about their kids today to take any time out of their busy lives to find out what their kids are up to, especially in today's world and all the trouble kids can get into...
You and Bonnie are great parents and I'm sure with all the love and care that you have for your son, he'll turn out just fine...
Let us know what happens when you meet with the teachers and see what they have to say...
Good luck, we all care about our 'forum family'...
